ILRI’s Biotechnology Theme seeks to recruit a Research Technician to work in a BMZ-funded project on contagious bovine pleuropneumonia.

Job Description:

* Produce Monoclonal Antibodies (MAbs) specific for Mycoplasma mycoides for

BMZ project on CBPP

* Develop ELISA-type assay for monitoring antibody responses and screening MAbs

* Purification of antibodies

* Maintenance and storage of ILRI’s hybridoma panels

* In vitro culture of mycoplasma

Preferred Skills and qualification:

* A Bachelor of Science degree from a technical college or a university

* Experience with monoclonal antibody production

* Experience with sterile cultures of mammalian cells, parasites and bacteria

* Experience with basic immunological techniques, such as antibody purification, ELISA, flow cytometry

* Computer literacy and confidence with working in Word and Excel or database management

* The ability to deliver a seminar about his/her work and write technical procedures for publications

* Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and to function in an international team environment

* He/she will have good organizational skills and at times be expected to cope with a heavy workload

Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at ILRI’s Nairobi campus and is on a 2-year contract renewable subject to six months probation period, individual performance and availability of funding. Salary and benefits will be in line with those provided within ILRI’s NRS scheme.
