Regional WTO-TRIPS/Pharmaceutical Expert - GTZ EAC Job Opportunity

The GTZ Programme “Support of the EAC Integration Process”, based in Arusha/Tanzania has expanded its activities to incorporate a new component on
medicine related issues of intellectual property and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

In order to cope with this new dimension, the GTZ team needs to be reinforced by a Regional Expert on “WTO-TRIPS and Pharmaceutical Sector Promotion”.

Core objectives up to 2012 are to efficiently and effectively contribute to the planning and execution of activities geared at:
  • Development of a draft policy and model protocol on the harmonization of national patent laws in the East African Community Partner States in


    order to fully utilise WTO-TRIPS flexibilities;
  • Development of an EAC regional strategy, implementation plan, budget, monitoring and evaluation framework for the promotion of the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector;
  • Establishment of an East African Regional Pharmaceutical Manufacturers’ Association/Alliance;
  • Harmonization of quality standards for pharmaceutical manufacturing in the EAC region;
  • Piloting of project activities with pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in the EAC region.
Qualifications:
  • A degree in pharmacy with demonstrated working experience in Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights (WTO-TRIPS) flexibilities;
  • Additional qualification in business administration, public administration, management or another relevant field would be an added advantage;
  • A minimum of 5 years work experience in the pharmaceutical sector at national or regional level – TRIPS and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing related experience would be an asset;
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing and medicines policy and regulation in the East African region;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in WTO-TRIPS flexibilities;
  • Experience with business associations in the East African region;
  • Experience in event and project management, monitoring and evaluation, Internet research, editing of publications, performing Public Relations and Communication activities (incl. newsletter, website) and networking
  • Excellent speaking, understanding and writing knowledge in English. A working knowledge of Kiswahili, French and/or German is useful.
