MOH–USAID–AMPATH Partnership - PHC/CDM Administrator Job Vacancy


MOH–USAID–AMPATH Partnership is a program under the auspices of Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital in collaboration with Indiana University School of Medicine, all uniting their resources towards tackling Kenya’s major health problems.

AMPATH operates in 24 Government of Kenya health facilities and 24 additional satellite centers in Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western Provinces.

AMPATH wishes to expand its services from comprehensive HIV care and


treatment to include Primary Health Care (PHC) and Chronic Disease Management (CDM).

AMPATH invites applications from suitable candidates for the following vacant position:-

PHC/CDM Administrator

Role:

Reporting to the Associate Program Manager, PHC, and the successful candidate will among others be responsible for the following:-

Duties and responsibilities

1. Administration
  • Collaborate with AMPATH Leadership to establish and maintain direction and standardize operational practices and procedures for the PHC rollout.
  • Assist in developing overall work objectives and determining short- and long-range goals.
  • Prepare work plans and budgets and ensure adherence to the same.
  • Prepare and submit periodic progress reports to AMPATH Leadership, Ministries of Health (MOH – MOMS and MOPHS) and donors.
  • Handle correspondence regarding PHC matters.

2. Internal Relations
  • Serve as a catalyst in implementing a comprehensive team approach to the delivery of PHC and CDM services
  • Liaise with relevant HODs within the program to facilitate achievement of PHC and CDM goals.

3. External Relations
  • Maintain satisfactory linkage with MOH and partner organizations through timely dissemination of information.
  • Facilitate integration of services and provider staff between MOH and AMPATH. PHC and CDM
  • Facilitate development of comprehensive protocols related to PHC and CDM.
  • Facilitate development of training curriculums for PHC and CDM.
  • Participate in mentoring providers in PHC and CDM implementation sites.
  • Consult with and advise AMPATH Leadership regarding needs, goals, and challenges according to feedback drawn from the ground.
  • In liaison with the Informatics Team, facilitate installation and implementation of a common computerized medical record system with tools to support clinicians’ delivery of protocoldriven, high-quality, efficient care.
  • Coordinate, plan and implement strategies to achieve the primary health care goals.

4. Professional Development
  • Develop professional competence through participation in continuing professional development (CPD) programs.
  • Organize refresher trainings/updates for staff as PHC and CDM matures and expands.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the healthcare field.

Qualifications and key skills

The ideal candidate must:
  • Possess a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH) or Business Administration or a relevant field.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Environmental Health, Public Health or a related health field.
  • Have 3-years experience in Kenya’s healthcare environment.
  • Possess excellent supervisory skills.
  • Have adequate knowledge of budgeting and planning.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and be an excellent team player in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Possess critical soft skills – excellent communication skills; ability to multi-task and/or work under pressure; resourceful and strong writing skills and; proficiency in MS Office applications.

Terms of Employment

The successful candidate will be employed on a 1-year renewable contract terms with a competitive allowance.
