Disaster Risk Reduction Manager, Kenya (Nairobi Based)

IRC, Kenya is currently looking for a Disaster Risk Reduction Manager based in Nairobi with frequent travel to the field program sites in Kakuma, Dadaab, and Lodwar.

We need a person with excellent technical skills and subject matter understanding, innovative programming aptitude and someone who can guide and work well with the larger Kenya team based in the field sites and Nairobi.

The person will have the opportunity to lead the IRC country program into integration of DRR in the existing and future programs as well as support in strengthening the country program’s emergency preparedness and response capability.

The DRR Manager will work with the supervision and guidance of the Deputy Director, Programs. The position will be expected to network externally (donors, resource organisations, Govt) and internally within the IRC (DRR working group, region, other IRC country programs).

Executive Assistant (Nairobi Based)

IRC, Kenya is currently looking for an Executive Assistant based in Nairobi. We need a person with excellent organizational and time management skills who can work well with the larger Kenya team based in the field sites and Nairobi.

The Executive Assistant is responsible for providing administration support to the Country Directors of both the Kenya and Somalia programs as well as the two Deputy Directors.

We need a person with at least three year’s experience in similar position, preferably with an NGO; Qualification or experience in travel and immigration operations; Ability to multitask, manage pressure and flexibility.

Clinical Officer - Pediatrics (Kakuma Based)

The Pediatrics Clinical Officer will:

  • be overall responsible for the daily clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients admitted in pediatric ward;
  • Refer chronic cases to the special clinics accordingly;
  • Organize with fellow clinical officers and clinical services manager weekly work and day off schedule to ensure that weekends are properly covered;
  • Liaise with clinical services manager on bi-annual rotational schedule;
  • on a daily rotation basis, do the daily morning ward rounds as part of continuing medical education program and also as a means of co-ordinating efforts with the Mos and ward personnel;
  • Ensure that all assessment and treatments provided are properly documented on patient’s files;
  • Maintain an accurate and updated records keeping system in the health unit keeping in mind that any significant changes seen with regards to cases in health unit should be reported to the hospital supervisor and others relevant authorities;
  • Carry out minor surgical procedures at the health unit;
  • Attend to emergencies in the ward in the absence of MO;
  • Participate in camp health survey e.g. Nutrition, Immunization, ect;
  • Develop clinical protocols and procedures; prescription, recording and registration of patients records;
  • Training of staff on job and theory sessions;
  • Monitor and provide on-going in-service training of refugee clinical staffs;
  • Provide health talks to patients/clients on day-to-day basis;
  • Improve patient records in line with the reporting system;
  • Keep complete and accurate inventory of medicines and supplies located at the dinic and monitor and supervise their usage;
The required qualifications for this position are; Higher National Diploma in Paediatrics and Valid Practicing licence.

Clinical Officer - TB (Kakuma Based)

The Clinical Officer —TB will:
  • be overall in charge of the TB Programme;
  • Overall responsible for the daily clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients attending the TB Clinic;
  • Ensure follow up management for all patients on TB treatment in liaison with the Community Health staff;
  • Improving & scaling up of Directly Observed Treatment via Community own Resource Persons(CORPs);
  • Follow-up on implementation of Directly Observed treatment at community level;
  • Training of TB treatment supporters and Community Health Workers on TB management;
  • Arrange a rotation schedule with fellow clinical officers;
  • Do daily ward rounds in the TB Ward;
  • Ensure that all assessment and treatments provided are properly documented on patient’s files;
  • Maintain an accurate and updated records keeping system in the TB Programme;
  • Admit patients to the ward when necessary and ensure that MO in charge is promptly informed;
  • Carry out minor surgical procedures at the health unit when on call;
  • Attend the Hospital staff meetings and CME sessions;
  • Attend to emergencies in the ward in the absence of MO;
  • Participate in camp health surveys;
  • Develop clinical protocols and procedures;
  • prescription, recording and registration of patients records;
  • Monitor and provide on-going in-service training of refugee clinical staffs;
  • Provide health talks to patients/clients on day-to-day basis;
  • Ensure the smooth liaison between the TB and HIV Programmes in the camp;
  • Keep complete and accurate inventory of medicines and supplies at the TB clinic, monitor and supervise their usage, in liaison with the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme;
  • Liaise with the District TB Co-coordinator and NTLP to ensure that patients are managed appropriately basing on up-to-date protocols and regimens.
The required qualifications for this position are; Higher National Diploma in Clinical Medicine with sub-specialization inChest and Skin; experience and knowledge in HIV/AIDS care and treatment and a Valid Practicing Licence.

Midwife (Kakuma Based)

The Midwife will be:
  • overall in charge of the hospital maternity unit and would therefore work as the midwife as well as the supervisor and team leader;
  • organize an effective referral system from the ward nurses/TBA’s;
  • Monitor/supervise obstetric care provided to ensure that work is done properly and efficiently;
  • Ensure that all relevant records are properly kept and updated;
  • Arrange and submit work schedule and plan duties and responsibilities of each and every staff;
  • Maintain good co-operation and communication between maternity and community TBAs;
  • Refer patients to the M.O. in charge accordingly;
  • Prepare and submit weekly requisition/consumption reports of all drugs and supplies;
  • Monitor and supervise usage of supplies;
  • Maintain equipment in good condition and submit regular inventory reports of the same;
  • Conduct regular training sessions for junior staff and continuous education;
  • Attend the hospital staff meetings and the reproductive health meetings;
  • Conduct monthly ward meetings;
  • Compile and submit monthly reports;
  • Ensure that the birth registration of babies is carried out, list compiled and submitted to UNHCR monthly,
  • Ensure prompt immunization of all new born babies;
  • Participate in health educating patients and relatives;
  • Participate in health surveys e.g. Nutrition and Immunization;
  • Carry out other relevant and/or requested duties as may be required by the supervisor.
The required qualifications for this position are; Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) with extensive experiencing in midwifery.
