In addition to consultancy services, FBW Group has a “Projects” subsidiary that undertakes direct investment! development projects on behalf of the Group. A US$SM end value residential development scheme is currently underway.

Due to an unprecedented growth in workload in our East African operations we are now seeking to recruit a series of talented individuals to be based at our offices in Kampala, Uganda to reinforce our dedicated team of European and African professionals in realising an exciting range of large, high-profile commercial projects underway within the region.

All positions are full time appointments expected to be based in Kampala,Uganda, with some requirements for regular travel within East Africa and occasionally to the UK and the Middle East.

Group Financial Manager/Company Accountant

Job description

A Board level position within a Group Company structure with primary responsibility to provide hands-on financial monitoring, planning, and cashflow management on a day-to-day basis, via systemised collection and maintenance of proper and accurate accounting records; the presentation of consolidated monthly financial statements within the context of a rolling annual and quarterly budget to Directors; and implementation of an appropriate tax strategy across the Group’s areas of activity.

Thereafter, to assist the Directors with detailed financial analysis of further business development opportunities and short, medium, and long term corporate strategy; preparation of papers for Board Meetings and attendance; representing the Company and its interests with Directors across Group activities.

Typical work activities

Typical activities are expected to include, but not necessarily be restricted to:-

  • Managing and supervising accounts department staff, and therefore responsible for:-
  1. Verification and processing of invoices and project vouchers and their subsequent payment
  2. Preparation of key general ledger and project account reconciliation including inter-company accounts
  3. Oversight and management of bookkeeping: registration of payments and receipts in the MIS/ERP system and reconciliation of end of year accounts
  4. Settlement of payments from banks accounts
  5. Preparation of monthly projections of expenditure and tax payable
  • Providing advice on financial and corporate structures within the company’s operational and geographical areas of business
  • Formulating strategic and long-term business plans and researching and reporting on factors influencing business performance
  • Providing advice on tax management and tax planning
  • Managing the company’s financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems
  • Developing new financial management control systems if appropriate
  • Conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities;
  • Liaising with external auditors to ensure annual monitoring is carried out
  • Developing and maintaining external relationships with appropriate contacts (e.g. lawyers, bankers and statutory organisations) in the company’s countries of operation
  • Liaising with tax departments, filing of online PAYE and VAT returns and supporting documents
  • Producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines and monitoring and interpreting cash flows
  • Providing advice on the management of the company’s current and future debt facilities
Education, knowledge and skills

The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for accuracy and precision in all aspects of financial management.
  • Graduate in accounting with professional qualification in ACCA or CPA or equivalent
  • Min. 5 years experience in multinational accounting environment
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good computers knowledge, especially in an ERP environment (‘open-ERP’ and ‘Quickbooks’)
  • Good knowledge of international accounting standards, processes and procedures applied in the company areas of operation
  • Knowledge of the current financial and administrative regulations and rules of the financial administration and local tax law within East Africa
  • Written and spoken English to executive level, and other languages an advantage

Architects/Engineers

Senior Project Architect/Team Leader
1 position

Required to lead and manage teams involved in the detailing and delivery of complex, mixed-use, high-profile construction projects in Uganda and Rwanda.

The successful candidate will be:
  • A registered architect with min. 5yrs. post qualification and international experience
  • Must have excellent organisational skills, strong technical knowledge and project management skills
  • Experienced in the delivery and administration of large-scale construction projects a requirement.
  • Experience in the delivery of 5 star hotel developments and knowledge of international branded hotel standards an advantage
  • Must have excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • French and/or Swahili speaker an advantage
  • Practical African experience an definite advantage
Technical Architect/ Senior Architectural Technician
1 position

Required to lead and manage technical teams involved in the detailing and delivery of production information for large, complex construction projects.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Proven experience in team management and delivery of large-scale construction projects a requirement
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong technical construction knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Good knowledge of international building standards
  • Technical proficiency with robust practical detailing experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCad & MS Office a requirement
  • Adaptive to challenging working environments
  • Practical African experience an definite advantage
Project Architects & Structural Engineer
2 architect positions / 1 engineer position
  • Min. 3 years post qualification experience
  • Registered within at least one East African country (Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English a requirement
  • Proficiency in AutoCad and MS Office a requirement
  • Proficiency in 3D modelling an advantage
  • Technically proficient with good drawing and presentation skills
