Deputy Director Finance, Administrative Support - CARE Kenya Jobs

CARE is seeking a Deputy Director to oversee administrative departments (Finance, Procurement and IT,) and ensure optimal support to projects within the policies of CARE and the laws of Kenya through the implementation of effective systems and procedures in the efficient execution of relief and development projects to reduce suffering and overcome poverty in Kenya.

The DD-FAS is responsible for all aspects of finance and administration for the CARE Kenya country office (CO) in Nairobi; sub-offices in Dadaab, Garissa and Kisumu; as well as project offices. The DD-FAS will keep policies up to date, and implement best practices and procedures.

The DD-FAS reports to the Country Director and will work closely with senior managers in decision-making.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • Overall management of finances; oversight of internal controls, assessment/mitigation of financial risks, oversight of accounting and financial reporting, treasury management, lead budgeting and expense tracking functions for the Country Office,
  • Oversee organizational planning; guide, direct the managers of departments of, Procurement, Transport/storage/management of assets, vehicles and office facilities, and mission information systems (MIS).
  • Ensure that rigorous systems are in place and that managers enforce compliance with these systems.

Requirements:

  • Preferably an advanced degree in Business Administration, Commerce , Finance with a minimum of 5 years of senior managerial experience in finance and administrative support, preferably with an INGO. Those with a first degree but have over 5years of demonstrable experience will also be considered. Competent working knowledge of MS Office (Access, Excel, Word);
  • Working knowledge of financial accounting systems (SCALA preferred); Knowledge of donor rules and regulations
  • Proven track record in working with multi-sectoral teams and managing and training and mentoring national/international staff;
  • Ability to work to under pressure, meet tight deadlines, with minimal supervision;
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational planning and English written communications skills.

This is a Nairobi based position but with travel to the sub-offices (Dadaab, Garissa, Kisumu) and international conferences.
