Danish Refugee Council (DRC) NGO Jobs in Kenya

The Danish Refugee Council has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa region since 1997.

The Kenya Program has recently started operations in Dadaab Refugee Camp, and interventions will focus on WASH and Livelihoods for the refugee population and host communities.

We are seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:

1. Project Engineer

Supervise and provide technical input to all aspects of construction works in the project sites in Dadaab. This involves technical assessments, preparation of designs and BOQs, supervision of all construction works, and monitoring of project implementation and expenditures.

Requirements:
Degree in Civil Engineering. Experience in preparation of technical drawings and BOQs, and at least three years experience in supervision of civil construction works. Auto-cad skills are essential.

2. Project Coordinator (Host Community)

Responsible for overall implementation of host community project activities in Dadaab. These include water resource development & management, education and community development activities in the local communities living around Dadaab refugee camps.

The Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, leading and monitoring all interventions in the host community project and will constantly review project strategies and program designs with a view to initiating necessary and timely measures for improvements.

Requirements:
Degree in Water engineering, Public Health, Community Development, or other relevant field. Three years experience in development programming at sector/departmental head level.

3. WASH Officer

Responsible for implementation of water program activities in local communities. S/he will participate in design of water projects ensuring established engineering methods and procedures are followed. S/he will promote community participation and collaboration with other stakeholders.

Requirements:
Degree in Water Engineering and at least three years experience implementing WATSAN projects in humanitarian environment, or large scale community rural water project.

4. Livelihood Officer

Responsible for implementation of DRC’s livelihood activities including group savings and loan activities in the local communities living around Dadaab Refugee camps. This position will require extensive travel to project sites located in Dadaab, Lagdera, Fafi and Wajir South Districts of North Eastern Province.

Requirements:
Degree in Community Development, Business Administration. At least three years experience in similar position, and experience in Group Savings and Loan approaches.

5. Construction Assistant

Responsible for all on site operations, working with contractors and sub-contractors, ensuring building contracts run on schedule. Inspect and review construction projects on periodic basis to ensure compliance with safety and building code regulations by maintaining strict quality control procedures.

Requirements:
Higher Diploma in Building & Construction. At least five years experience in building and construction.

6. Construction Foreman

Responsible for supervising the construction crew and ensuring work is done as per the job specifications. Ensure proper use of materials and supplies as per the bill of quantities and technical specifications.

Requirements:
Diploma in Building & Construction. At least three years experience in building and construction in similar role, demonstrated ability to supervise the work of others.

7. Finance & Administration Assistant

To provide financial and administrative services to ensure effective and efficient operations. Carry out all bank and cash transactions, booking of expenses for the field office ensuring proper authorization and coding S/he will ensure compliance to DRC procurement procedures.

Requirements:
Degree in Accounting or CPA II. Three years work experience in similar role preferably in humanitarian sector.

8. Assistant Safety and Security Officer

To assist the Regional Security Advisor in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating safety and security procedures. Will act as focal point for safety coordination and information sharing between the relevant actors within the area of operation.

Requirements:
At least five years experience in Police or Armed Forces. Possess training in Security and Disaster Management. Training in safety, fire, evacuation procedures and experience working in Dadaab region or similar challenging environments.

9. Head Cook

Will oversee food production and services for DRC staff mess. Develop food menus, prepare food requisition, and oversee utilisation of food stocks. Supervise kitchen staff and ensure highest standards in food production and food handling.

Requirements:
Diploma in Food Production. At least five years experience in catering. Training in food and restaurant management.
