CNFA Senior Livestock Specialist Job Vacancy

CNFA Inc., is a Washington, DC-based, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to stimulating sustainable economic growth and to reducing poverty around the world by nurturing entrepreneurship, agricultural enterprises and market linkages.

CNFA is seeking a
 Senior Livestock Specialist fora 3 year project expected to start within the next 4-6 months.

Principal Responsibilities

The technical requirements of the position will
be focused four areas:

(i) Improvement of livestock quality and livestock product standards, including the development or expansion of effective animal health/veterinary service systems;

(ii)
 Business advisory and technical support to livestock enterprises;

(iii)
 fodder supply and storage and

(iv)
 the promotion of domestic and export trade in livestock and livestock products e.g. dried meat, corned-beef, cheese and other milk—based items.
  • He/she will have demonstrated ability to manage staff and to develop and oversee a multidisciplinary program of technical assistance and training.
  • Work effectively with herdsmen and other stakeholders to achieve significant increases in productivity and incomes. (Experience with Islamic populations preferred).
  • Capacity and willingness to engage with animal health service providers, livestock traders/entrepreneurs, specialized livestock production unit operators and government officials providing support to livestock development.
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (MS or Higher) in one of the following areas: animal husbandry (with a focus on cattle and small ruminants), rangeland or pastoral management, agricultural economics (with an emphasis on livestock), livestock production and marketing, agricultural extension or a closely related field.
  • 5-8 years of progressively professional experience in the field of livestock development and management and must have expert knowledge of livestock sector production, policy and marketing systems.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Government of Kenya (GOK) institutions, policies, legislation, strategies, past experiences and development approaches.
  • Proven experience in Kenya or the region preferred; Fluency in English required (written and spoken).
