Human Resources Officer

AMREF Kenya is looking for an individual who is well organized, highly motivated and


results oriented to join a dynamic team and help bring better health for Africa.

Purpose

Stationed in Nairobi and reporting to the Human Resources Manager, s/he will provide support to all aspects of the human resources function by ensuring the availability of a competent and well-motivated staff throughout the Country Program in line with our policies and procedures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the administration and implementation of HR strategies focusing on achievement of the required results.
  • Assist in the interpretation and implementation of AMREF HR policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of organizational change processes needed to achieve organizational goals.
  • Assist in manpower planning and staffing within the country program with a focus on diversity.
  • Co-ordinate staff performance including induction, probation and the annual performance evaluation.
  • Support training and development activities including planning and delivering within the Country Program.
  • Administration of payroll and benefits. Provide information on payroll action as per set guidelines.
  • Fostering a workplace environment consistent with the organization’s values, mission and vision.
  • Assist in ensuring AMREF’s compliance with all national legal and statutory requirements for the management of its HR resources.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate should have a first degree in social sciences or related discipline and post graduate qualification in HR. 4 years experience in human resource management in a busy environment.

S/he should have a detailed understanding, knowledge and experience in the HR functional areas and in the application of statutory and labour laws and of best practices in HR.

Working knowledge of HRMIS is an added advantage. In addition, the candidate should have excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing, facilitation and negotiation skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, tact and discretion when dealing with people.

Project Officer: In-Country Co-ordinator for the Improving Malaria Diagnostics (IMaD) Project

The incumbent will report to the Clinical Programme Manager through the Malaria Laboratory Advisor and will be stationed in Nairobi. He/she will be responsible for timely implementation of IMaD Kenya’s annual work plan and to provide technical support to the Department of Malaria Control (DOMC).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Facilitate timely implementation of IMaD Kenya’s annual work plan and provide technical support to the DOMC in implementing new recommendations for malaria diagnostics policies, guidelines and case management.
  • Liaise with the IMaD regional and headquarters staff to coordinate IMaD technical assistance, including incountry visits and virtual support during weekly teleconference calls and through bi-monthly activity reports.
  • Develop and implement an enhanced supervisory process based on mentoring concepts for malaria diagnostics and case management.
  • Assist in the coordination of outreach supervision training of supervisors, and the development and implementation of quality assurance protocols relating to malaria diagnostics.
  • Assist in developing and conducting operational research relating to IMaD and AMREF objectives, analysing results and disseminating reports.
  • Identify and recommending approaches for integration of activities with other disaster control programmes in the efforts to improve malaria diagnostics and case management.
  • Procurement of equipment and supplies for IMaD using laid down procedures.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Medical Laboratory Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist with minimum qualifications of BSc or HND and at least 5 years experience in implementing malaria diagnostics programmes
  • Possession of a Masters Degree in a related field would be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of procedures for the diagnosis of malaria; and skills and experience in training laboratory staff and development of training manuals and materials
  • Experience in data collection and basic analysis and in the preparation and writing of reports
  • Good management, supervisory and mentoring skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, team player, able to work under stress and in a fast-paced environment with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work under field conditions in remote and hard to reach areas
  • Experience with USAID funded programs in Kenya will be an added advantage
