Senior Reproductive Health Officer (Sexual and Reproductive Health, Adolescent Health, Child Health, Population and Development)

Reports to: Principal Health Officer (PHO)

Duration: Three (3) Years

Station: EAC Secretariat, Arusha - Tanzania

Main Purpose of the Job:

• To coordinate and facilitate the implementation of various regional policies and programmes related to the sexual and reproductive health in accordance in accordance with the “EAC Regional Strategic Plan on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in East Africa: 2008-2013” and also the donor funded project named “Invest in adolescents - Building advocacy capacity in East Africa: 2010-2013” with special emphasis on identified priority Sexual and Reproductive Health, Adolescent Health, Child Health, Population and Development activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. To provide strategic and technical support to EAC and Partner States in the implementation of the EAC Regional Strategic Plan on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in East Africa: 2008-2013.
2. To forge strategic partnerships in promoting universal access to SRH&R and advancing the UN MDGs and ICPD policy agenda in EAC Partner States.
3. To act as the focal/resource point for national governments, private sector, African Union Commission, UN agencies, civil society and other partners working in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health, Adolescent Health, Child Health, Population and Development within the East African region.
4. Coordinate the work of the “EAC Technical Working Group on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Adolescent Health, Child Health and Nutrition” as per approved Terms of Reference (TORS).
5. Coordinate the work of the “EAC Regional Inter-Parliamentary Forum on Health, Population and Development (EACPFHPD)” as per approved Terms of Reference (TORS).
6. To coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the European Commission (EC) funded project named “Invest in adolescents - Building advocacy capacity in East Africa: 2010-2013”.
7. Facilitate the establishment and operationalization of National Technical Teams (NTTs) on Sexual and Reproductive Health, Adolescent Health, Child Health, Population and Development in the Republic of Rwanda.
8. Conduct situational analysis on unmet needs in Reproductive Health.
9. Coordinate and facilitate harmonization of policies that address Reproductive health issues such as safe motherhood, infertility, adolescent sexual reproductive health, family planning, cancers of reproductive systems, gender, child health, demography, population and development, reproductive and sexual rights within the partner states.
10. In liaison with the EAC regional HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Opportunistic Infections (OIs) Programme, the Officer will coordinate and facilitate the integration of STIs, HIV & AIDS, OIs, Gender, Adolescents, Youth, Children and PMTCT concerns into the Reproductive and Child Health Projects and Programmes

Qualification and Experience:

• A Masters Degree in Medicine from a recognized University with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Child Health, Public Health, Demography, Population and Development with a minimum of seven (7) years relevant experience, 3 of which should be in Management.
Skills and Competencies:
• Team Player, good inter-personal working skills, good analytical and report writing Skills.
