Objective of the organisation

Terre des Hommes Netherlands through the Regional Office East Africa supports project partners in the execution of projects for deprived children in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with the aim ‘to improve the quality of life of deprived children by ensuring their rights’.

Objective of the position

The aim of the position is to ensure that Terre des Hommes Netherlands East Africa office support services for children in need in the respective program/target areas are delivered in an efficient and effective way in contribution to the vision and mission of the organisation.

Position within the organisation

The Programme Coordinator Uganda is responsible to the Regional Director of the Terre des Hommes Netherlands Regional Office for East Africa in Nairobi.

Responsibilities and results

Regional Office support functions

  • Developing country/thematic policies
  • Advice on decision-making regarding project applications
  • Preparation of proposal applications for funding
  • Monitoring and Documentation

Project Partner support functions

  • Advisory services to project partners
  • Safeguarding project quality
  • Promote a supportive partnership environment
  • Guidance and accountability information

Qualifications

  • University level education in a relevant discipline
  • At least five years experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge about Child Rights based programming, Convention on the Rights of the Child and Ugandan legislation related to the protection of the rights of the child
  • Knowledge of project planning and project cycle management
  • Knowledge of financial management
  • Skilled in information analysis and report writing
  • Skilled in computer use and computer based data processing
  • Fluency in English, both verbal and written

Other desirable qualities

  • A solid understanding of rural development, with a focus on participatory processes and gender issues;
  • Familiarity with processes of strengthening local organisations and building local capacities for effective and efficient implementation of activities;
  • Proven experience in financial management as well as advisory role for strengthening financial systems;
  • Knowledge of the political, administrative, religious and social/cultural structures in Uganda;
  • Experience in participatory assessment, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Good contextual knowledge of local issues affecting children, community priorities, organisational relationships, social and cultural constraints and realities;
  • Leadership qualities; personnel and team management (including mediation and conflict resolution);
  • Ability to organise seminars and workshops;
  • Knowledge of a local Ugandan language is an added advantage.

Terre des Hommes Netherlands offers the selected candidate a competitive package of secondary benefits entailing a monthly gross salary based on a full time position starting from about KES 85000 with duty station Nairobi and depending on experiences.
