Family Care International (FCI)/Kenya is seeking to fill the position of Program Officer.
FCI is an internationally recognized non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safer in the developing world.
FCI advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights; builds the capacity of local partners; and develops information and training materials.
Since 1995, FCI Kenya has been working to focus attention on maternal mortality, forge consensus around proven strategies, and accelerate action to address the causes of poor maternal health.
FCI Kenya provides technical assistance and capacity building in the following areas:
- conducting qualitative and quantitative research on key maternal health issues; advocacy to heighten awareness of and attention to key sexual and reproductive health issues and promote the implementation of government policies and capacity-building and training for medical and non-medical personnel on issues related to obstetric care, quality of care, institutional management, and youth-friendly service deliver.
Based in Nairobi, with extensive travel to various project sites in the country, and reporting to the FCI Kenya National Coordinator, the Program Officer will support various programmatic activities on reproductive, maternal and newborn health and adolescent sexual and reproductive health.
Specific duties of the position include:
- Contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of ongoing maternal and adolescent sexual and reproductive health initiatives being implemented with Government and Non-Governmental partners;
- Supporting and coordinating research activities in the field, including preparations for field work, oversight of datacollection activities, and ensuring data quality;
- Contributing to the preparation of advocacy and informational materials and tools on reproductive, maternal and newborn health and adolescent sexual and reproductive health;
- Reviewing, editing, and contributing to the development of project documents, including training and other programmatic tools, as well as activity reports;
- Presenting FCI Kenya’s experience, tools, and reports to external colleagues and partners, and representing FCI Kenya at selected meetings and workshops;
- Providing support to other programmatic and fundraising activities of FCI Kenya and collaborating with New York-based colleagues in the development funding proposals and other project documents, as well as maintaining close working relationship with relevant governmental, non-governmental and funding organizations;
- Supervising interns’ contribution to the above activities, as requested;
- Other duties as may be requested from time to time.
Qualifications and Core Requirements:
- Advanced degree in public or community health, demography, sociology or relevant topic.
- Over 5 years relevant work experience in sexual and reproductive health, in particular in reproductive/maternal/newborn health and/or adolescent sexual and reproductive health including the areas of project development, advocacy, fundraising and evaluation.
- Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative research, primarily in reproductive/maternal health.
- Strong writing and editing skills, and strong interpersonal and professional communication skills (e.g., public presentations/speaking) in both English and Swahili.
- Ability to work as a team player.
- Organized and detail oriented.
- Demonstrated ability in Microsoft office computer packages.
- Travel of 50% of time is required to various project sites in Kenya.
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification.
