Program description:

This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It involves conducting research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases.

It is in this Mandate that the Global Aids Program has one position for Kisii Region PMTCT Coordinator for Gap PMTCT program.

Reporting to: KEMRI/CDC Gap PMTCT Project Coordinator

Location: Kisii Region

Essential Requirements:
• Must have a Diploma in Clinical Medicine/Community Nursing/Public Health Nursing.
• Must be registered with the Clinical Officers Council/Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Must have a good understanding of PMTCT, including the national guidelines, HIV management, including provision of ART, Care and management of opportunistic infections.
• Minimum of two (2) years of work experience, of which at least 1 year in Public Health
• Must have a good knowledge and understanding of the GOK Ministry of Health – district level functioning
Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to coordinate and supervise provision of PMTCT activities at District and facility level.
• Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
• Ability to work well in a team, and be able to collaborate well with the Ministry of Health and other partners.
• Ability to make good judgment.
• Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken.
• Proficiency in Computer packages Ms Word, Ms Excel and MS PowerPoint.
Job Summary:

The PMTCT Coordinator will be responsible for the Coordination and implementation of the PMTCT activities in Kisii Region.

Duties and responsibilities:
• With guidance from the KEMRI/CDC PMTCT Program Coordinator and in liaison with MOH, DHMT and other relevant organizations coordinate and implement PMTCT activities in Kisii Region.
• Coordinate training of health workers and other providers for the implementation of PMTCT activities
• Serve as a resource person and facilitate in PMTCT training sessions.
• In collaboration with the DHMT, facilitate the establishment of functioning of PMTCT Coordination Steering Committees at District and health facility levels.
• Work with the DHMT in providing regular support supervision for the implementation of PMTCT at facility level.
• Ensure continued provision of quality and accessible PMTCT services in the region.
• Work with the DHMT (and respective facilities Staff) to ensure that the required logistics (supplies and equipment) for PMTCT is available.
• Contribute towards community mobilization efforts with a focus on strengthening the linkage of PMTCT activities at facility and community levels.
• Attend meetings on and relevant to PMTCT at District and facility level.
• Compile and report program activities, progress and needs monthly to the PMTCT Program Coordinator.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by KEMRI GAP PMTCT Coordinator.
Terms of Employment:
• A six (6) one year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service.

• Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
