Description

Key Responsibilities

• Development of data entry systems based on research questionnaires and organisation, under the direction of clinical researchers.
• Database design, database description, archiving and systems for secure access and back-up The existing systems at Thika Hospital use an Ubuntu OS with a PHP-MySQL format system designed though a Zend Frameworks (MVC) format.
• Archiving and regular back-up of database systems at Thika Hospital.
• Distribution of data in a variety of formats in response to research needs
• Development and support for administrative information systems eg. equipment inventories, billing systems etc, but no actual responsibility for budgets.
• Assist in planning for systems upgrades/maintenance and IT infrastructure changes, in conjunction with KEMRI-Wellcome staff working at Thika Hospital.
• Provide limited software and hardware support to users at Thika Hospital.

Requirements

Necessary Skills / Attributes
• A completed Diploma or Bachelors degree in IT (or equivalent) from a well-recognized institution.
• Experience in working with PHP and MySQL, with working knowledge of PHP coding and documentation standards. Applicants will be asked to provide evidence of previously having worked with PHP-based systems.
• Experience with MVC frameworks (required) – specifically with ZEND Frameworks v1.8+ (advantage)
• Experience in Javascript and Javascript Libraries
• Some experience with Linux-Ubuntu
• Some experience with networking
• Experience with data entry and database design and management
• Ability to work independently following regular direction sessions.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
Skills / Attributes that are highly advantageous
• N+ and A+ Certification
• Experience in data collection in medical research settings
