Job Description

To assess, price and determine terms for risks presented within set standards of service in a manner to ensure quality selection of risks and enforce underwriting controls, implement underwriting guidelines, processes, and procedures to ensure quality underwriting and business

Responsibilities

Determine acceptability of risks to ensure that risks onboarded are within the set underwriting guidelines and are covered under the reinsurance Programme.

Providing technical advice/support to junior staff on rating and underwriting of complex risks to ensure safe profitable distribution of risk.

Managing underwriting processes like business onboarding, completeness of onboarding documents, risk surveys and valuations, policy documents issuance, certificates management, cancellations, and refunds.

Providing technical support and input on product development and business innovation initiatives to ensure continuous review of existing products to meet changing market needs.

Review and approval of risk pricing and quote requests.


Response to daily operational queries from customers to ensure smooth operation and efficient customer experience within the stipulated turnaround times.

Auditing and monitoring compliance levels on various compliance issues such underwriting documentation, risk cessioning in the system and compliance with filled and reinsurance rates.

Review and approval of policy schedules and documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and correctness of the same.

Knowledge And Experience

Qualifications:

Degree in insurance, actuarial or business related.

Professional qualification (CII or IIK) or good progress

Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience

Intensive and extensive product knowledge

Good Communication Skills

Computer Literate with good knowledge of Excel

Key Results

Preparation of quotations and follow-up

Preparation of documents – policies, endorsements, certificates within standards of service

Renewal notices and renewal terms including renewal follow-up.

Review of performance of accounts to ensure overall performance is below 45%.

Maintenance and accounting for accountable documents.

Signing of documents within authority levels.

Completion of reinsurance cards for large risks.

Ensure the SOP standards are upheld in the department and report any issues of non-compliance.

Ensure payment requisitions are processed immediately when presented.

Ensure quotations, including those done by Assistant underwriters are competitive.
