Position
summary:
At the
Rainforest Alliance we are looking for a team builder and results oriented
Human Resources (HR) Generalist to manage every aspect of the employee life
cycle. The Kenya team is diverse and multicultural, with different educational
and professional backgrounds. The team is also growing significantly and we are
looking for a HR Generalist who has the ability to understand organizational
goals and established HR practices and policies in order to foster a positive
organizational environment that reflects Rainforest Alliance´s culture and
values.
The HR
Generalist, under the supervision of Country Director, Kenya/Tanzania is
responsible for a broad range of HR functions related to payroll, benefits and
entitlements, performance management, recruitment, onboarding, oversight of the
maintenance of personnel files, compliance with both HR related internal rules
and national legislation, and information held in the Human Resources
Information System (HRIS) for all staff in Kenya. The HR Generalist works in
close collaboration with the Director, People Operations, Senior People
Business Partner and HR Advisor Africa for specific HR projects in relation to
learning and development, performance and talent management and any other HR
projects.
Responsibilities:
The

Support
recruitment processes in close collaboration with hiring managers and the
Talent Acquisition team;
Ensure
that onboarding and offboarding processes are well implemented, in close
coordination with hiring managers;
Train new
hires on HRIS system, and tools related to objective setting, performance
management, learning and development;
Manage
the monthly payroll and statutory deductions in liaison with the Finance &
Administration Unit, and support the preparation and implementation of global
payroll system;
Ensure
that salaries (and benefits) are properly reported in HRIS;
Administer
staff local and global benefits ensuring that local labour laws and guidelines
are respected, and train staff on the same;
Advice
the Country Director, Senior People Business Partner and HR Advisor Africa on
issues related to non-compliance with HR guidelines and anticipate issues that
may affect the delivery of HR services;
Support
managers on development and performance management of their teams;
Keep the
Employee handbook up to date in line with local labour laws and Rainforest
Alliance rules and regulations;
Ensure
that staff files are up to date following local and global guidelines;
Responsible
for coordinating staff group activities such as team retreats/workshops and
team buildings in collaboration with Finance & Administration unit;
Lead all
aspects of general office management ensuring compliance with health and safety
regulations for Nairobi and the satellite offices;
Provide
HR administrative support for PEO countries in East and Southern Africa; and
Any other
duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s
degree in human resources management or related field;
Minimum 5
years’ relevant professional human resources experience required;
Knowledge
and experience with Kenya employment law and the associated administrative
requirements;
Excellent
interpersonal skills with ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and
diplomatically with diverse internal and external stakeholders;
Strong
organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner;
High
level of discretion and sensitivity when dealing with confidential matters;
Written
and verbal proficiency in English;
Proficient
in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook with experience in HRIS administration
systems;
Must be a
registered member of Institute of Human Resources Management (IHRM);
Ability
to travel a minimum of 20% per year, nationally and internationally; and
Experience
in a not-for-profit and international environment preferred.
