What is the opportunity?
Working
under the supervision of the Human Resource Manager, Kenya, The Human Resource
Specialist will assist with benefits administration, recruiting, onboarding,
off-boarding, record keeping, compliance, research, and day-to-day customer
service support for our staff. This position will also manage and provide
leadership for the Water Mission internship program. As Water Mission continues
to grow, the responsibilities of this position may change and flex to adapt to
the needs of the ministry. The incumbent needs to be flexible and comfortable
with changing priorities and responsibilities. This position will be based in
Kitale, Kenya, and support Makueni and Turkana.
As an
employee of Water Missions International Kenya, the Human Resources Specialist
is responsible for developing a biblical worldview culture that leads to
God-honoring excellence in all their work and reinforcing the following:
providing accurate data, empowering staff to have the skills and mindset needed
to acknowledge mistakes or problems as opportunities to find appropriate
solutions, and empowering staff to consistently work for excellence in
solutions that are consistent with Water Mission’s mission, vision, values, and
standards.
The
Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for:
- Maintain
a strong Christian witness and model servant leadership to colleagues,
partners, the communities we serve, and the public.
- Provide
day-to-day HR customer service functions by answering internal and
external requests and questions.
- Support
the administration of WMK benefits (health, dental, vision, wellness)
including open enrollment, changes, and terminations.
- Process
required documents and employee action forms through payroll and insurance
providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
- Assist
with the staffing and recruiting process by posting positions, screening
applicants, making phone interview recommendations, scheduling interviews,
and preparing and circulating interview guides.
- Complete
all reference checks, background checks, and all other required paperwork.
- Conduct
new employee onboarding, orientation, and applicable training.
- Maintain
organized, updated employee files physically and electronically.
- Assist
in the administration of a field staff travel program (pre-deployment,
field support, reentry).
- Support
the research, creation, and administration of strategic HR initiatives as
directed.
- Begin
the creation of an HR department handbook with best practices and
procedures.
- Support
staff special events as required (recognitions, training, celebrations,
etc.).
- Support
the growth of the Water Mission internship program (recruitment,
onboarding, programming).
- Assist
in providing leadership for all HR department interns and volunteers.
- Support
in ensuring compliance with all applicable federal and state HR laws.
- Stay
informed about HR news and developments, especially as they relate to WM.
- Perform
other special projects and duties as assigned to support the ministry.

required?

- Bachelor’s
degree in business administration or HR.
- 1
to 3 years experience in HR or an HR-related field.
- Possess
the Certified Human Resource professional qualifications (completed or
ongoing).
- Demonstrated
a high level of integrity and excellent judgment in handling sensitive and
confidential information required Excellent written and verbal
communication skills, including articulating ideas and feedback
constructively.
- Keen
attention to detail required.
- A
knowledge of leadership, mentoring, management, analytical, and
organizational skills demonstrated by the ability to work independently
and within a team, assess priorities, and manage various activities with
attention to detail.
- Demonstrated
project management skills.
- Comprehensive
computer skills, including all MS Office products.
- Experience
with an HRIS or ATS preferred.
- Understanding
of candidate sourcing and recruitment tools a plus.
- Advanced
skills with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint).
- Personal
and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Excellent
relationship and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability
to work both independently and collaboratively with a team.
