Overall purpose of the role:
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is leading a consortium
of partners in implementation of the EU-funded BORESHA NABAD programme
implemented across Mandera, Kenya, Dollo Ado, Ethiopia and Gedo, Somalia.
Building upon BORESHA I, II and III, BORESHA NABAD is centered on enhancing the
effectiveness of conflict prevention and mitigation, disaster risk reduction
and management, and resilience-building in cross-border communities. DRC is
partnering with Rural Agency for Community Development (RACIDA), Voice for Peace
for All in the Horn of Africa (VOPA) and Mandera Women for Peace and
Development (WFPD) to deliver BORESHA NABAD.
DRC is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to drive the overall development and implementation of the BORESHA-NABAD project’s communication and visibility plan in line with DRC and- EU’s communications and visibility strategies. The ideal candidate will closely work with other DRC offices and consortium partner teams and will be required to provide support in accordance with the project’s needs and requirements, ensuring communication deliverables meet the standards and required guidelines.
The position is opened to Kenyan, Ethiopian and Somalian
national applicants.
The role will have the following key
responsibilities :
- Work on the development,
implementation, and coordination of the project’s communication and
visibility strategy as per DRC and EU communications and visibility
guidelines;
- Regularly coordinate and host
consortium communications meetings with the consortium partners’ focal
points to stay informed about planned activities, upcoming events, and
campaigns, and provide guidance and support as needed to coordinate and
align the project’s communication and visibility approaches with the
programme implementation and reporting;
- Create content for the
BORESHA-NABAD website and social media handles and ensure timely updates
of the project news and activities across these platforms while ensuring
compliance with the donor and DRC guidelines;
- Track media coverage
opportunities and undertake regular media monitoring (on social and
traditional media) for references to project activities;
- Develop and edit photos, videos,
web articles, tweets, social media posts, press releases, and monthly
newsletters with project colleagues and manage an editorial calendar for
the proposed thematic contents as necessary;
- Work with the programme, M&E,
and partnership coordinators to train field staff and local partners and
develop easy-to-follow communication materials and templates;
- Provide technical support to the
supply chain team in the procurement of communication materials and
maintain an up to-date filing system for all communication materials,
including photos and other contents;
- Help with programme and donor
events, including developing communication and visibility materials for
high level events in a short notice.

Experience and Technical comptencies
(included years of experience)
- University degree in
communications, journalism, international relations, or other relevant
discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years of
professional experience in a similar role, or as a writer and context
developer in communications for development, preferably in peacebuilding
and livelihood programmes setting.
- Experience in communications
strategy development and implementation in a consortium setting.
- Strong graphic design skills and
ability to use all related Adobe and social media tools, Google Analytics,
and content management systems.
- Photography and video editing
skills is required.
- Excellent consortium coordination
skills to effectively liaise with all project partners staff and
external stakeholders involved in the project.
- Ability to develop communication
and visibility materials for high-level events in a short notice.
- Ability to take the initiative to
suggest creative solutions for social media platforms; Demonstrated
experience to initiate and suggest creative solutions for social media
platforms and maintain social media campaigns.
- Fluency in written and oral
English is required ( to be tested)
- Familiarity and knowledge of
cross-cultural dynamics in any of the program target locations.
