Assistant Tax Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage tax activities of the BAT
entities as assigned
- Manage the accurate and timely calculation,
filing and payment of relevant tax liabilities for the BAT entities.
- Preparation of tax computations, deferred tax
reconciliations and disclosure notes in the annual financial statements.
- Review tax returns and schedules for submission
to the revenue authorities as prepared by tax/finance analysts or advisors.
- Coordinate and monitor tax compliance activities
for the assigned markets.
- Completion of BAT Group reporting templates and
schedules.
- Transfer pricing compliance in line with Group
guidelines and applicable laws
- Manage the review and update of transfer pricing
documentation in line with Group guidelines and relevant local &
international laws.
- Ensure documentation to support the arm’s length
nature of affected transactions is properly and adequately maintained.
- General business support
- Assess tax implications of business projects,
agreements, and transactions in the assigned markets.
- Ensure appropriate and robust processes and
controls are in place to manage corporate tax governance in the assigned
markets, following agreed Global standard processes and frameworks.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax
numbers in the assigned markets, in line with Group reporting requirements.
- Ensure all tax risks and sensitivities are fully
investigated and correctly reflected in the assigned market’s financial
statements.
- Stay abreast of new tax legislation and assess
business impact of the same in the assigned markets.
- Support the senior tax manager in driving
corporate simplification initiatives and other tax & business projects.
- Tax audit/litigation support
- Support the assigned markets with end-to-end
management of revenue authority queries, requests for
information,verifications,audits,and disputes to mitigate exposures.
- Liaise with tax advisors on audit findings where
necessary.
- Assist the senior tax manager in managing the dispute/appeal/litigation
process
Knowledge / Qualifications
- University degree in Finance, Tax, or a related
field.
- Minimum 4 years relevant experience in tax
compliance and planning.
- Working knowledge of corporate tax systems, for
both direct and indirect taxes.
- A good understanding of corporate tax accounting,
including deferred tax.
- Working knowledge of SAP is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint.
Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
as well as the ability to manage relationships and work with managers
across all levels within the company and externally.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to
explain complex tax issues in a clear and concise manner.
- An ability to work effectively with all levels of
staff within the company and externally – this should be demonstrated by
successful experience in business partnership and decision support.
- Basic understanding of commercial business
drivers.
- Excellent project and time management skills.
