SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH OFFICER – GRADE E4 (1 POST)
An officer at this level will be responsible
to the Deputy Director Environmental Planning and Research coordination.
Duties and
responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities at this
level will include but not limited to:
- Designing research programs,
fundraising for research, disseminating environmental research findings to
various stakeholders;
- Nurturing partnerships for
research with stakeholders on relevant environmental research areas;
- Developing research strategies;
- Coordinating preparation of the
State of Environment Reports (SOEs);
- Ensuring implementation of
environment research findings;
- Overseeing implementation of
rehabilitation programmes of degraded sites;
- Supporting development of
National Environmental Action Plan (NEAP);
- Researching on emerging global
environmental issues;
- Coordinating data collection for
supporting proposals for grants and donor funded projects;
- Assessing compliance with EMCA
1999 regulations all over the country;
- Creating networks with national,
regional and international research organizations;
- Domesticating Multilateral
Environmental Agreements (MEAs) by designing and developing robust
implementation strategies;
- Coordinating reporting process
under relevant Multilateral Agreements (MEAs);
- Developing monitoring and
evaluation programmes for EMCA regulations;
- Supervising, appraising and
developing audit staff to ensure maintenance of high audit standards
within the audit function.
Requirements for
appointment
For appointment to this position a candidate
must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the
following disciplines; Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies,
Community Development, Natural Resource Management, Geo-informatics,
Environmental Health & Safety, Biological and Physical Sciences,
Biostatistics or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Master’s degree in any of the
following disciplines; Environmental Science, Environmental Studies,
Community Development, Natural Resource Management, Geo-informatics,
Environmental Health & Safety, Biological and Physical Sciences,
Biostatistics or any other relevant field from a recognized institution.
- Management course lasting not
less four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of ten (10) years’
relevant work experience and at least three (3) Years’ experience in a
management role in Public Service or Private Sector.
- Proficiency in Computer
Applications.
- Good Communications skills.
- Shown merit and ability as
reflected in work performance and results.
- Fulfil the requirements of
Chapter 6 of the Constitution.
Terms of service
All the above positions are on permanent and
pensionable terms of service except for the position of Corporation Secretary/Director Legal
Services – Grade
E2, which is on a three (3) years renewable contract.
