SENIOR PHYSIOTHERAPIST REF: TNH/HRD/SP/02/2023
The overall purpose of
this job is to carry out in-depth physiotherapy assessment, treatment, review
and evaluation of patients in collaboration with healthcare workers and
caregivers and in line with established protocols and the Hospital’s patient
care objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry
out comprehensive subjective and objective patient assessments to develop
hypothesis of the patient condition;
- Examine
radiological images including X-Rays, MRIs, CT-scans, and ultrasound scans
as well as laboratory reports to validate clinical findings;
- Set
and/or review short and long-term treatment goals in consultation with the
patients, family members and caregivers;
- Design
and explain treatment plan or plan of care to patients in line with the
set treatment goals;
- Administer
physiotherapy interventions in line with plan of care which include but
not limited to educating patients on findings, modification of movement,
manual techniques and hands-on alterations;
- Evaluate
patients using physiotherapy outcome measures to assess the impact of the
treatment plan;
- Prepare
discharge plans for inpatient and outpatient basis and provide homecare
programs for patients to ensure continuity of treatment;
- Undertake
periodic patient reviews to assess patients’ progress;
- Prepare
periodic patient progress reports to doctors, caregivers, patients,
patient employers and insurance companies for proper facilitation;
- Fabricate,
fit and sell physiotherapy items to patients in line with the patients’
needs;
- Ensure
health and safety of patients and colleagues in the use of physiotherapy
equipment in line with established health and safety guidelines;
- Report
any malfunctions on physiotherapy equipment to maintenance department and
follow up with maintenance department for repairs and maintenance;
- Prepare
and ensure implementation of the physiotherapists’ duty rota in
consultation with the Head of Physio and Occupational Therapy Services;
- Provide
guidance to junior physiotherapists on execution of work to ensure
compliance to established protocols;
- Provide
formal and on-the-job training as clinical resources to doctors, nurses
and other physiotherapists on current practices; and
- Any
other responsibilities that may be assigned to the job holder by the
supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications
- Higher
Diploma in Physiotherapy from a recognized institution.
- Must
be registered with the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya and hold a valid
practicing license.
- Minimum
of 5 years’ physiotherapy experience.
