Inspector of Works 

Responsibilities

  • Supervises drilling of wells and boreholes and construction of surface and subsurface water intakes.
  • Supervises the installation and operation of water supply systems, water treatment plants, water storage facilities, pumps, plants and control panels of and other allied equipment.
  • Supervises the installation and maintenance of septic systems, sewerage network, sewage treatment plant, pumps, plants and controls panels of and other allied equipment.
  • Coordinates scheduled maintenance on all the installations and equipment related to above.
  • Monitors the performance of water and wastewater equipment and infrastructure in the field including boreholes, pumps, main supply, storage tanks, distribution networks and sewage systems.
  • Monitors and ensures adequate stock levels of spare parts for water supply and sewerage works and controls panels as well as necessary tools and equipment; and provides lists of periodic requirements of same well in advance for the purpose of raising requisitions.
  • Provides field-based input for preparation of scope of works for water and wastewater systems.

  • Draft Work orders and Task Orders for various WATSAN works.
  • Inspects WATSAN projects during and after completion and prepare inspection reports as well as prepares project completion documents.
  • Revise different contractor invoices before signature by Resident Engineer.
  • Interact positively with different contractors to facilitate WATSAN projects
  • Raise and process all electronic documents in support of WATSAN unit activities such as Cargo Movement, Movement of Personnel, Assets and Materials notifications…. etc.
  • Performs other duties as and when required, including emergency call-out and standby duties.

Qualifications

Hard skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering/building and Construction or related field of study.
  • At least 3 years relevant site work experience in supervision of Civil Works preferably water supplies and Sewerage constructions.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standards office and Engineering computer applications for example AUTOCAD.
  • Good understanding of Contract Management for Civil Engineering Works.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Proven track record in running projects
  • Hands-on, ready to roll up the sleeves.
