Hardware & Firmware Engineering Manager
About The Role
The hardware manager will
lead a diverse team of hardware and firmware engineers that are working on
next-generation clean cooking. In addition to the next generation of products,
the hardware engineering manager will support existing production activities
here in Kenya as well as other sites and partners in Africa, Asia, and
India.The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading, guiding,
and building diverse teams of hardware engineers. In addition to leading, they
will also identify and drive the development of new technologies and innovative
solutions. To do this they will keep a close eye on leading-edge relevant new
technologies and best practices.
Duties And
Responsibilities
- Mentor,
and direct a team of hardware engineers in the design and development of
consumer electric cooking products.
- Lead
partnerships with suppliers and technology development partners.
- Ensure
features and requirements are implemented by working closely with our
product management and product design team.
- Resource
management.
- Support
product manufacturing and warranty insuring HW is optimized as well at
well supported by aftersales.
- Review
HW and Firmware designs to insure they are meeting product requirements
and best practices.
- Establish
best practices and tools for getting work done.
- Scale
products from prototype to high-volume production.
- Set
up and implement DFMA, DFR, and DFMA processes.
- Identify
staffing needs and lead hiring activities in collaboration with Burn’s
recruiting team.
- Assist
with proof-of-concept simulations that support design reviews.
- Support
preparation of comprehensive documentation for all electrical designs,
including wiring diagrams/schematics, bill of materials, assembly
drawings, and design changes, test reports, design-validation plans, and
reports to ensure installation and operations.
Skills And Experience
- Bachelor
of Science in Electrical Engineering or similar
- 7+
years of product development experience, specifically with electronics
- 2+
years of management experience with multiple direct reports.
- knowledge
of software, electronics, and mechanical engineering, including system
integration.
- Experience
conducting and leading DFR, FMEA, and DFMA activities.
- Experience
with Altium designer.
- Experience
with large-scale production is a plus.
- Experience
with simulation tools such as MATLAB, EAGLE, Proteus, etc.
- Understanding
of PCB design constraints
- Jera
or other Agile project management tools.
