humanitarian organisation that provides assistance to people affected by war,
conflict, natural disasters, outbreaks and epidemics or healthcare exclusion.
The organisation now works in more than 70 countries around the world, with
significant projects across East African countries including in Burundi,
Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
POSITION BACKGROUND
MSF EA provides administrative support to staff working in its Nairobi office, and with the diversity of its set up, being based in an operational environment while hosting other HQ office positions, it seeks to enhance its capacity towards having a sustainable structure and set up that would meet the needs and requirements of an increased mixed team comprised of staff directly and indirectly supporting or managing operations in the region and globally.
The section is currently
updating various processes, policies and practices to be better adopted to the
current needs and trends, while forward looking into the development of the
Global staffing model which seeks to address issues on compensation and
benefits that will emanate from have a global approach which ensures a fair,
modest but also competitive rewards policy framework.
MSF EA will align its
approach with the ongoing MSF rewards review project while adopting to
local/contextual needs and requirements. This is aimed at providing a framework
that enables us to have a consistent approach, promotes diversity and
transparency needed in staff remuneration for various positions contracted by
the office and meets the dynamic labor market requirements.
MSF EA conducted benchmark
studies in 2021-2022, and with the current economic situation and trends
(inflation & economic crisis), a short-term measure and decision will be
considered while longer term changes, management & maintenance will be
foreseen (Policy reviews). The Section seek to develop its current Function
grid to ensure that it will be consistent with the current set up and align to
the ongoing MSF HR Rewards review project (on the Global grading deliverable).
This will enable MSF EA to have a consistent approach, promote diversity and
transparency needed in grading of positions based in Nairobi HQ office.
PLACE IN THE ORGANISATION
The Rewards specialist
will report hierarchically & functionally to the HR
Director and he/she will work closely with other specialist and
counterparts within and outside the Organisation.
OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
The MSF EA Rewards
Specialist will review the current rewards framework, Grading policy (based on
Hay methodology) and develop new Policy for management and maintenance in the
long term.
They will develop and
implement short and long-term measures through Policy & guidelines, that
will address rewards & compensation needs, ensure a transparent grading
process and framework that identifies with the Section set up.
Duties &
Responsibilities
Short term economic
analysis/review
- Analyse
the benchmark report (s), economic trends and data based on current
context and information to make proposals for short term adjustments and
review.
- Propose
a framework to be implemented for the Section aligned to the local and
Global needs.
Rewards Policy development
- Carry
out engagement with staff, stake holders and actors towards development of
Key policy changes.
- Propose
and deliver policy and guideline for the section that meets local context
and is aligned with current and future trends in MSF and globally.
- Provide
tools, guidelines and procedures that would provide structure to the
maintenance of the Rewards system/policy.
- Provide
input to the ERP/HRIS (Odoo) based on the policy & guidelines
developed in order to ensure systems are adapted.
MSF EA Grading Framework
Review and development of
the Grading Framework.
- Engage
staff/stake holders for input & feedback.
- Review
and develop the Function structure & profiles for the Section set up.
- Producing
guidelines and tools to support the implementation of the Global Grading
Framework.
- Propose
a Support and maintenance structure/framework for the Section to oversee
the management of the Job grading system.
Support & maintenance
- Support
dialogue amongst MSF entities and strengthen cooperation/interaction with
movement on issues related to job evaluation.
- Support
Section HR technical team & hiring managers in their role on taking
informed decisions on Job Grading.
- Provide
training and technical support to HR staff involved in the
management/maintenance process.
- Provide
tools, guidelines and procedures that would provide structure to the
maintenance process.
Qualifications
- Significant
experience of working in an HR role, specifically on rewards &
compensation area. Experience working with Hay and other grading
methodology/tools is an advantage.
- Experience
of undertaking evaluations & analysis in different contexts
- Excellent
organizational skills with demonstrated ability to execute projects on time
- Excellent
numeracy and spreadsheet skills, including Microsoft Excel
- Able
to interact effectively at all levels in a complex international
organization through excellent communication, negotiation and conflict
management skills
- Strong
interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
- Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability
to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Fluent
in English; second MSF language(s) (Spanish, Arabic or French) an asset
- Previous
experience with MSF or another international NGO

A competitive full-time
employment or consultancy contract as soon as possible through MSF
East Africa Section Office in Nairobi.
Monthly Salary Range
between 379,000 – 454,000 KES.
Other benefits
include temporary Relocation support for non-Kenyan residents based on MSF
EA terms/conditions.
