PRINCIPAL LEGAL OFFICER

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Board & Regulatory Affairs / Legal Services, the Principal Legal Officer, will be responsible for Legal, Regulatory and Company Secretarial Services and supporting the management on all related legal matters concerning the Company.

The key tasks & duties for the position include;

  • Defining the necessary level of knowledge on existing and emerging regulatory compliance requirements across the Company
  • Developing the annual compliance work plan that reflects the Company’s unique

  • Providing guidance, advice, and/or training and educational programs, to improve business’ understanding of related laws and regulatory
  • Coordinating efforts related to audits, reviews, and examinations
  • Developing policies and programs that encourage managers and employees to report suspected fraud and other improprieties, without fear of retaliation
  • Coordinating internal compliance review and monitoring activities, including periodic reviews of departments
  • Preparing and drafting amendments to legislations affecting the Company
  • Preparing the  Company’s   comments  and   feedback   on   proposed
  • Participate in public forums where legislations affecting the Company are being
  • Prepare compliance matrix and risk register for the
  • Lobby the relevant stakeholders on legislative issues affecting the
  • Regularly review the compliance plan in the context of the regulatory
  • Ensuring adequate legal protection for Company property and other
  • Liaising with external lawyers on court cases involving the
  • Participation in resolution of commercial and contractual
  • Negotiation, drafting, reviewing, monitoring and evaluation of all contracts and
  • Preparation of conveyancing documents and participation in property
  • Undertaking research on new developments in the handling of land transactions and advising the Company on all conveyancing matters and Land
  • Ensuring safe custody of all legal documents and securities custody.
  • Promoting legal awareness in the Company;
  • Handling litigation and disputes involving the
  • Prosecuting and defending legal cases on behalf of the
  • Monitoring compliance with court procedures and requirements to enhance timely, efficient and effective conclusion of disputes, prosecutions and

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized Institution
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid practicing
  • Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing
  • Minimum of eight (8) years post admission experience in a busy law firm or public/commercial entity, five (5) of which should have been at a Supervisory level
  • Proficiency in computer applications
