LEGAL OFFICER III

Reporting to the Senior Legal Officer in Legal, Regulatory Affairs
& Company Secretary Division, the Legal Officer III will be responsible for
Legal, Regulatory and Company Secretarial Services and supporting the
management on all related legal matters concerning the Company.
Responsibilities
The key tasks & duties for the position include;
- Provide legal advice to all departments of the
Company in various areas including but not limited to commercial and
corporate transactions for protection of the Company’s
- Liaise with Company advocates and ensure efficient
and proper provision of legal advice and consultancy
- Draw, negotiate, vet and ensure execution of contracts
and agreements emanating from all departments of the
- Ensure conditions under the contract are strictly
adhered to.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on various areas
of law as may be assigned from time to time
- Draw leases and other conveyancing documents
relating to properties in the
- Making claims from the banks of those debtors who
are large power consumers and have valid
- Instructing external lawyers to sue for recovery of
debts from the
- Follow up in consultation with external lawyers to
ensure that debt recovery cases in courts are concluded and judgments
- Carry out the responsibility of all secretarial
functions and provide the guidance required for compliance with statutory
legislation and regulatory issues as may be appropriate to the Company’s
- Prosecution criminal offences relating to the energy
- Undertaking research on assigned legal issues and
compiling data to ensure the prosecution services offered are well
informed and are of high quality, and to enhance on the efficiency and
effectiveness in the delivery of
- Conducting appeals, applications and revisions in
all courts and preparing report on the outcome of the appeals and
applications, to ensure the challenges faced in the delivery of service
are identified and strategies developed and implemented to minimize
- Advising investigative agencies on criminal matters
to ensure quality delivery of
- Preparing legal documents to be filed in court, to
support the ODPP and the OAG in preparing for the court cases submitted,
and to support compliance with the requirements of the
- Screening police files and advise on possible
prosecution, to support the commitment of the National Police Service in
the maintenance of law and order, and to ensure timely prosecution of
- Studying and evaluating case files presented and
making decisions whether to or not to
- Prepare and file legal documents at court
registries, such as plaints, statements of defenses, response to claims,
appeals, list of documents and witnesses, witness statements, bundle of
documents, applications,
- Represent the Company in courts (Superior and
Subordinate Courts), tribunals, and before government agencies
- Oversee the work of support staff, such as legal
assistants, legal clerks and Legal Secretaries to enable efficient
delivery of services
- Prepare reports and maintain the records of the
Company with respect to the department to enable monitoring and reporting
to the Management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized
Institution
- Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School
of Law
- Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a valid
practicing certificate
- Minimum of four (4) years post admission experience
in a busy law firm or public/commercial
- Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing
- Proficiency in computer applications
