Position: Food Safety and Quality Systems Auditor

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Job Purpose: This role is supposed to ensure the development, implementation and monitoring of an effective Food safety and quality management system that guarantees supply of high quality and safe produce to the market.

The position also ensures that the company is conscious of the well-being of its employees and the environment through the implementation and monitoring of social and environmental stewardship standards.

Responsibilities

·  Work hand in hand with the agronomy department, and with the Agronomy Business Developer to ensure supply of the required raw materials that meets all quality and food safety specifications

·  Management of the Food Safety and Quality systems in both the fields and in the pack house.

·  Develop, Review and implement food safety growing and packing protocols. These shall include
food safety and quality manuals, Standard Operating procedures,

·  Train the members of the staff how to apply the Food Safety and Quality protocols in their
respective work points.

·  Continually review and implement the list of approved pesticides for each crop. The reviewed list



of approved pesticides should be given to the farmers immediately upon the review.

·  Manage the Food Experts portal.

·  Conduct integrated food safety and quality internal audits with an objective to identify compliance to the BRC Food Safety standard, the Global GAP Standard, KS1758 and other standards. The internal audit should also help to verify effectiveness of the standard operating procedures and the QMS.

·  Prepare an audit schedule covering all areas that concern food safety and quality. To do this, use
the BRC Standard for food safety, Global GAP Standard, KF S 1758 among other standards.

·  Guide in the processes of carrying out the above scheduled internal audits.

·  Provide reports and advice in relation to the outcome of the internal audit stated above.

·  Ensure that all Nonconformance raised in the audits are actioned on and closed within time
schedules

·  Plan and schedule third party audits for both farms and the pack house

·  Plan for the BRC, Global GAP audits, Organics audits and Social audits (such as SMETA, GRASP)

·  Guide in the processes of carrying out the above scheduled internal audits.

·  Provide reports and advice in relation to the outcome of the external audit stated above.

·  Ensure that all nonconformance raised in the audits are actioned on and closed within time
schedules

·  Develop and implement an effective pesticide residuals testing schedule.

·  Always analyze the pesticide residuals report and address any non-conformance notes.

·  Develop and implement a water quality and safety analysis schedule

·  Contact person with the regulating bodies

·  In charge of inspections by the KEPHIS and HCD. Ensure that all inspections reports and
recommendations are actioned upon.

·  Develop, review and implement a training schedule for workers and the farmers covering all areas
that concerns production of high quality and safe product

·  Carry out assessment for the effectiveness of the training done and address any issue that will rise
out of the assessment.

·  Report to the management any noted event, occurrence and incident that can have an effect on the food quality, safety, legality and authenticity.

·  Any other duty that may be assigned to you by your superiors.

Qualifications

·  BSc in Agricultural related field such as Horticulture, Agriculture, Food Science & Technology

·  Minimum three years’ experience in food safety and quality systems

·  Understanding of applicable food safety & quality standards e.g. BRC – Food safety Standard,
Global GAP standard, KS 1758

·  Able to manage the food expert portal.

·  Understanding of social standards such as GRASP, SMETA etc

·  Vast knowledge in food safety in food safety and quality auditing skills

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate
with internal and external customers

·  Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)

·  Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
and providing exemplary customer service

·  Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of
instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices .
