Program description: This program is a collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, USA (CDC) whose remit is to conduct research in Malaria, HIV, Parasitology, TB and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the collaboration would like to fill a vacancy in the following position for the Pregnancy VE Study within the DGHP branch

Location: Kisumu and Siaya

Reports to: Research Administrator

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
  • Be registered and with a valid practicing license from the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya.

  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Be fluent in English and Kiswahili languages, both oral and written
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Be willing to reside in/within the study sites.
  • Certificate in “Good Clinical Practice” and/or “Human Subjects Protection”

Skills knowledge and Abilities.

  • General knowledge on maternal health and child development
  • Experience working in a research study
  • Experience using laptops and tablets (handheld computers)
  • Strong organization skills

Job Summary: Reporting to the Research Administrator, the Clinical Officer will be responsible for screening, enrolment, and clinical management of enrolled participants, as well as careful administration of CREDI and Baileys Scale assessment tools, documentation and data entry of findings.

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the study’s goals and activities to conduct the study
  • Perform screening & consenting, enrollment, prescription of medications and follow up of participants, including medical history, physical examination
  • Document applicable study data during all study procedures
  • Clinical management of ill participants and conducting clinical procedures including venipuncture, insertion of IV cannulas and collection of biological samples when necessary
  • Perform screening and assessment of study participant in terms of motor, cognitive, language and social-emotional development using CREDI and Bayley’s Scale tools.
  • Respond to and resolve queries about participants’ information documented in the study files
  • Make diagnoses and decisions on patient’s management according to study protocols and the recommended national guidelines
  • Any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor

Terms of Employment:

The successful candidate will be offered a one year (1) renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a probation period for the first 3 months. Salary is as per the stated job grade
