Background: HIV
testing among during emergency care is an opportunity to reach persons that are
not well engaged with HIV Testing Services (HTS) in other settings and provides
particularly good access to young adults, men and key populations, which are
priority groups for testing and HIV self-testing (HIVST) initiatives.
The
planned research will be a pilot implementation science study completed at a
single site in Nairobi, Kenya at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The
research will evaluate the impacts and utility of enhanced HTS and HIVST
programming within the Accident and Emergency department (A&E).
The
research will enrol and follow both patients and healthcare providers as
participants and gather data overtime on multiple outcomes pertaining to HTS
metrics and operational aspects.
The results will be used to inform future research and public health initiatives designed to increase HIV testing and treatment among populations commonly missed by conventional HIV programming in other A&E settings.

Positions
Job
Purpose: To screen, consent, enroll and follow up patient subjects for
the collection of data for a pilot implementation science study evaluating the
utility of enhanced approached to HTS and HIVST programming during A&E
care.
Position
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Screen
and enroll eligible participants into the study in the A&E
· Ensure
proper administration of consent procedures
· Administer
screening and enrollment questionnaires to participants
· Utilize
hard copy data forms to complete data collection as needed
· Utilize
mobile devices to complete electronic data collection
· Ensure
that data are collected accurately and resolve any discrepancies
· Perform
follow-up evaluations with enrolled participants either in person or through
phone contact if needed
· Be able
to refer participants for HIV testing and counseling as needed
· Prepare
quarterly reports for the Study Coordinator
· Perform
other duties as directed by Study Coordinator
· Attend
weekly study team meetings either in person or virtually
Essential
Qualifications:
· Diploma
or degree in Nursing (KRCHN or BScN)
· Previous
experience in clinical or research activities.
· Specific
experience with emergency care research desirable
· Familiarity
with HIV-testing, prevention, and treatment strategies
· Certificate
in Good Clinical Practice
· Basic
computer skills particularly for Word-processing, spreadsheets and e-mail
· Familiarity
with smart phone / device technology for data collection
· Strong
communication skills in English and Kiswahili
Desirable
qualities, skills and abilities:
· Experience
with HIV testing and care
· Experience
with HIVST programming
· Experience
with emergency medical care
· Certificate
in Voluntary Counseling and Testing or HTC from NASCOP or accredited facilities
is an added advantage
· Training
in research ethics
· Attention
to detail and good work ethic
· Ability
to work with minimal supervision
· Respectful,
punctual, hardworking, conscientious
· Ability
to work effectively as a member of a collaborative team
Expectations:
· Full-time
position at 40 hours per week which will require working overnight and on
weekends based on a variable schedule to accommodate study needs
· Position
length is 4 months, provided good performance
