Research Intern
KEMRI/ CBRD/ MALARIA/ NOVAPLEX PROJECT
The Kenya Medical Research Institute is committed to providing the youth with opportunities to acquire, sharpen their knowledge and gain technical/practical skills to complement their studies in order to enhance their employability in line with the Kenya Vision 2030. The KEMRI Internship Program (KIP) seeks to develop a pool of young talent adequately exposed to working in the research industry. After the planned twelve (12) months’ internship program, the candidates will have gained practical workplace experience to enable them have a competitive edge in their job search.
The CBRD Malaria lab has
received funding to work on a project titled; ‘Improved Malaria Diagnostics
To-wards Achieving UHC: Performance and Evaluation of The Novaplex Malaria
Assay Against Other Routine Diagnostic Techniques in The Detection of
Plasmodium Spp Infections in Malaria Patients in Kenya’. The project is a
collaboration between Centre for Biotechnology Research and Development and the
Seegene® Diagnostics.
The project seeks to
recruit
Research Intern
Location: Nairobi
Reports to: The project Principal Investigator (PI)
Duties and responsibilities
- Sample
collection and processing
- Assist
in running of laboratory assays for the project Lab Results processing and
reporting
- Field
Data collection and management
- Assist
in other tasks to support the project as required. Provide administrative
assistance.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies
- BSc.
Biological sciences from a recognized institution;
- Proficiency
with molecular laboratory equipment with recent attachment in a
parasitology/molecular biology laboratory;
- Familiarity
with molecular biology techniques; DNA extraction, PCR and Qpcr;
- Knowledgeable
in Sequencing and Sequencing data analysis; Accuracy and close attention
to detail; and
- Strong
analytical and organisation skills.
Contract Duration
1 year
Please Note:
- The
project WILL NOT offer
employment after the completion of internship.
- A
monthly stipend will be given without any other benefits.
- Interns
will be expected to take up a personal accident cover and medical
Insurance cover; and
- INCOMPLETE
applications will not be considered.
