Library Assistants

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science/Archives and Records Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Higher National Diploma in Library and Information Science/Archives and Records Management or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Computer literacy.
  • 3 years’ experience as a Library Assistant I in MKU or in a similar recognized University.
  • OR
  • Diploma in Library and Information Science or Archives and Records Management.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a Library Assistant I or Assistant
  • Archivist I in MKU or in a similar recognized University. Must be computer Literate.

 Responsibilities

  • Accessioning, giving new books ownership stamp.
  • Classification, cataloguing, indexing and abstracting.
  • Electronic learning user support services (internet & email).
  • Library user orientation and education.
  • Literature search using online public access catalogue (OPAC).
  • Online circulation of library books (Check in and Check out).
  • Preservation of library materials.
  • Reference and reprography services.
  • Shelving of information services.
  • Advice on required materials in the library.
  • To appropriately execute any other duties as directed by the University Librarian
