JOB TITLE: Assistant Claims Manager-Legal

Job Description
The position is responsible for ensuring there is an efficient claims management process in Claims
Department (Legal section) to the expected quality standards and within the Company’s service
level benchmarks. Specific focus will be on efficient and effective management of claims with
respect to the set budget.

 Responsibilities
Financial
• Approve claim payments in a timely manner after confirmation of admissibility.
• Establish initial reserves for all reported claims and adjust as appropriate throughout the claim.
• Enforcing the reserving policy following recommendations from the actuarial department.
Customer
• Ensure all claims reported are processed expeditiously, within the company’s performance
benchmarks.
• Coordinate efforts among staff and other parties to achieve timely, equitable disposition of claims
handled in the Claims Department.
• Comply with customer protocols/service charter.
Process
• Coordinates with professionals and specialists to help judge risk assessment
• Oversees insurance claims for Motor Insurance coverage, appraisal, and verifiable damage.
• Ensures complete and sound claim settlements, legal reviews and investigations in accordance with
company policies and procedures.
• Responsible for leading and directing a team of claims technicians/ brokers
• Monitor service provider performance against the set standards and recommend action where need be.
• Ensure in-depth, investigation of actual claims through direct or indirect contact with policyholders,
claimants, investigators, attorneys, etc.
• Enforcing the reserving policy following recommendations from the actuarial department.
• Respond to correspondence and/or queries relating to legal claims
• Analysis and approval of claim files within approval limit as per the prescribed turnaround time.
• Ensure applicable claims are reported accurately and timely to Reinsurance Section as required by
procedure.
• Review, monitor and provide technical expertise to staff and ensure that there is systematic and
adequate on job training.
• Prepare the claims monthly report.

• Deputize the Claims Manager.
• Perform any other duties as required from time to time

• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing
professional publications.

• Monitor performance of the legal staff and seek interventions through training and mentorship
where performance is low.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Law degree
• Post Graduate diploma in law/ Admitted to the Bar as an advocate of the High Court
• A diploma in Insurance (ACII, AIIK or equivalent)
• 6 years of professional experience, two of which should be in Middle Management

Job Description
The position is responsible for controlling matters under litigation with external lawyers, all legal cases under their services, and out of court settlements and/or recoveries in liaison with the Legal Analysts.
Responsibilities
• Assist in appointment of defense lawyers where action is brought against the company and
ensure at all times the advocates work in the best interest of the Company.
• Assist in recovery of company outlay from negligent third parties.
• Assist in negotiating amicably, out of court settlements.
• Review investigation reports, to ensure that they are comprehensive enough to meet the need
for which they were sought, and recommend remedial action as necessary
• Assist in processing of payments to claimants and service providers
• Assist in legal research and preparing legal opinions to both external and internal clients.
• With the assistance of Senior legal officer, respond to any correspondence and/or enquiries
regarding claims legal issues.
• Maintain adequate reserves for legal claims.
• Prepare legal documents as required.
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
• Bachelor of Law degree
• Post Graduate diploma in law/ Admitted to the Bar as an advocate of the High Court
• Cumulative 1 Year Work Experience in the Legal Field Awaiting/ Admitted to the Bar as an
advocate of the High Court

Job Description
Information handling and documentation.
 Responsibilities
  • Maintain proper and up to date client’s records and files.
  • Ensure that cataloguing, abstracting, indexing and filing of case files, requiring in-depth
    treatment of subject matter is done.
  • Maintaining and updating files, reorganizing and establishing new files as necessary.
  • Establish, strengthen and maintain both hard and soft filing system in such a way that is
    responsive to the firm’s record keeping needs and keeps the filing system up to date all the
    time.
  •  Attending Court, Filing Documents and perusal of its files in the Court Registry
  •  Attending court cases on behalf of the company and prepping witnesses on the same.
  • Providing the claims manager with monthly reports on litigation matters and status reports on
    the same.
  •  Following regular court proceedings and filing reports on the findings.
  •  Handling and managed litigation files from inception through trial.
  • Ensuring files are ready for hearing
  •  Attending Court Registry to peruse file proceedings/records
  •  Record Management and Data Entry
  • General correspondence with clients.
  • Receiving Legal correspondences and Making bring-ups in the Office
