Tourism Guide
Role Summary The Tourism Guide will
introduce visitors to Ol Pejeta Conservancy’s unique attractions, and to guide
them in a safe and knowledgeable manner, providing them with information
focusing on conservation messaging while creating a world-class integrated Ol
Pejeta visitor experience as a year-round local and international tourism destination.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy (OPC)
– a leading wildlife conservancy that works to conserve wildlife, provides a
sanctuary for great apes and to generate income through wildlife tourism and
complementary enterprises for re-investment in conservation and community
development is seeking applicants in the position below:-
The Tourism Guide will report to the
Field Officer, and working closely with the entire Tourism, Sales and Marketing
Department, as well as liaising with Chimps care givers
Responsibilities
·
Being available for all conservation
experience guiding services at: Hippo Hide, Moranis, Chimps sanctuary,
livestock etc. as and when required and follow procedures to welcome, handle
and escort clients including school groups in an enthusiastic, confident,
helpful and compassionate manner.

Ensuring all Conservation Experiences
guiding are booked in the operating system in use (OBTS) and paid for.
·
Ensuring the disclaimer form is
filled before undertaking any conservation experience.
·
Provide support for Bush Walks and
Bird Walks in the supporting role of tracker ensuring correct service delivery
of these Conservation Experiences.
·
Provide visitors with any additional
information with regards other available Conservation experiences on Ol Pejeta
Conservancy including OPC shops/Adoption Centers and offer any useful local
information that may add value to their visit.
·
Ensure all equipment needed for
conservation activities are provided (i.e. Blankets, ponchos, binoculars,
spotlights, water etc.) and report any breakages, repairs or need for
restocking as and when necessary.
·
Ensure that your attitude and
behavior towards visitors positively contributes to OPC’s work to generate
income through wildlife tourism.
·
Prepare to be flexible and pro-active
depending on visitor requirements and ensure that their needs on the ground are
met.
·
Emptying of dustbins regularly and
disposing off the waste according to set standards.
·
Maintaining high degree of discipline
and organization, including being properly dressed in appropriate uniform and
having a name tag at all times.
·
Maintaining high degree of
confidentiality within and outside the sanctuary at all times.
·
Ensure proper procedures are followed
with regards Health and Safety reporting to the TSM Office any issues that
require attention so as to ensure a safe environment for clients. In the event
of any emergency, aid visitors and evacuate the area following proper
procedures.

Utilize facilities, tools and
equipment required for the daily activities in an efficient and effective
manner and reporting to the Field Officer of any problems.

Attend departmental meetings as and
when required.
·
Maintain good relations with all
customers, Tourism Partners and suppliers.
·
Ensure that all the public areas are
kept clean, hygienic and presentable at all times.
·
Any other duties as reasonably
requested by the Field Officer, Operations HOU, Consultant or HOD.
Qualifications
·
Education: Minimum ‘Secondary’ level
education with certification. KPSGA certification is an added advantage.
·
Experience: Minimum 2 years working
as a guide.
·
Key skills and qualities: Ability to
work under minimum supervision, Keen & fast learner, good communicator,
confident, presentable and a good team player.
·
Knowledge in written and spoken English
and Kiswahili.

Ol Pejeta works to provide students
with a fulfilling work environment by offering internship/attachment
opportunities. Students engaged on internship/attachment programmes are fully
immersed into the day-to-day operations of the conservancy to prepare them for
productive work opportunities in future.
