GIS Learning Advisor

Indepth Research Services is a capacity development and research services firm in Africa. We offer research support and capacity development programmes to development institutions and professionals in Monitoring and Evaluation, Data Management and Analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing. Our programs are aimed at strengthening data management, monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and performance management capacity of development actors across the continent to achieve their development objectives. We provide managers and practitioners with the tools they need to manage and evaluate programs, and projects at the local, county, national, regional, and global levels.
We are currently interested in a young dynamic and results driven candidate who is passionate about developing his/her research skills and experience in practical environmental management, disaster risk reduction and GIS. This position is based in Nairobi, but with occasional travels to the field within and outside the country.

Responsibilities
Training and curriculum development
·         Utilize a variety of media to maximize training effectiveness.
·         Develop and maintain training compliance database to track course completion for target audiences, as dictated by regulatory requirements.
·         Provide feedback and suggestions on course design and materials to support any areas that need improvement.
·         Develop consistent curriculum framework for all trainings in alignment with strategic goals,
·         Review all course curriculums on a regular basis to be prepared to conduct any course assigned on short-notice.
·         Teach GIS software courses in a traditional or online instructor-led classroom to help customers stay on the leading edge of GIS technology
·         Contribute to the development of course materials and other educational tools by authoring content, providing technical expertise, and sharing feedback
·         Develop strong and collaborative relationships with the content development, delivery support, and training sales teams
·         Participate in interdepartmental projects, conferences, and interest group meetings to bolster the training we offer
Business Development
·         Preparing proposal and responding to related EOI and RFPs
·         Following up new business opportunities and setting up meetings
·         Planning and preparing presentations
·         Communicating new product developments to prospective clients
·         Overseeing the development of marketing literature
·         Writing reports
·         Providing management with feedback
Qualifications
·         Bachelor’s or master’s in Natural or Environment science, Disaster Management, Natural resource management.
·         2 years + Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, QGIS, ENVI and ODK
·         Knowledge of Web and mobile GIS applications
·         Experience with web-based meeting tools
·         Demonstrated technical writing ability
·         1+ years of instructional delivery and classroom facilitation experience
·         Clear understanding of GIS theory and application in Agriculture, Health, Environment, DRR among others.
·         Desire to learn and expand technical knowledge in both GIS and related technology
·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·         Excellent time management, prioritization, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
·         Ability to work in a in fast-paced and adaptive client training environment
·         Ability to travel domestically approximately 30% of the time, with optional international travel
·         Working knowledge of Stata, SPSS, Advanced Excel and R will be an added advantage.

Agriculture & Rural Development Learning Advisor
We are Africa’s leading training and consultancy center since 2003, offering technical consultancy and training services designed for individual and organizations in the agriculture, climate change and environment; disaster management; education; food and nutrition; health; humanitarian relief; logistics and telecommunication; recovery and reconstruction; safety and security; water and sanitation sectors.
We seek to recruit an aggressive, confident, fluent, mature and keen to detail Humanitarian Trainee & Learning advisor to manage all communications, both internally and externally on full time basis.
Responsibilities
Training and curriculum Development
·         Design training to build the capacity of technical officer, Extension officials and teachers of agriculture and veterinary Institutes.
·         Launch training for farmers in adopting appropriate practices in agriculture and livestock management.
·         Choose appropriate training methods per case (simulations, mentoring, on the job training, professional development classes etc.)
·         Use accepted education principles and track new training methods and techniques
·         Design and prepare educational aids and materials
·         Determine additional training strategies based on data or observation
·         Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Business Development

Key responsibilities in consultancy work
·         To provide scientific support in implementing various research projects
·         Implementing field surveys, collecting and processing secondary data, developing research reports, policy briefs, communication materials, and presentations on research
·         Implement farm level, household, market and consumer surveys, and collect and manage secondary data
·         Facilitate focus group discussions and key informant interviews in selected areas
·         Data entry, cleaning and management of survey data
·         Managing electronic surveys: programming of tablets (for example with CSPro, ODK), retrieving and assembling the data, cleaning and organizing
·         Locate, assemble and analyze secondary data relevant for specific research
·         Conduct statistical and econometric analysis of survey and other data using STATA, SPSS or other standard statistical software
·         Conduct literature reviews and assist in preparing strategy documents, research reports and policy briefs to strengthen research and publication efforts
Qualifications
·         Masters degree in Science in agricultural economics/Agribusiness management, Horticulture, Agronomy or related field, from a recognized university or any other relevant degree with bias in quantitative and qualitative analysis, from an accredited university;
·         Professional Certificate in Project Monitoring and Evaluation.
·         Ability to design training curricula based on a needs assessment and present in MS word and Power Point format to farmers and local staff.
·         At least 3-5 years of experience in design and delivery of agricultural training
·         Strong agribusiness and value chain skills
·         Experience in working with a range of stakeholders that include the private sector, government, agribusiness cooperatives and farmers’ associations.
·         Good computer literacy and knowledge of multiple statistical and/or qualitative software packages such as SPSS, SAS, STATA, R Studio, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Word.
·         GIS and Remote Sensing experience is an added advantage.
·         Experience in conducting field surveys and analysis of farm household and market survey data
·         Conversant with designing of questionnaires in CAPI using CSpro and/or ODK

Humanitarian Technical Capacity Building Learning Advisor

Qualifications
·         Minimum Bachelor degree in Disaster Management, Sociology, Public Health, International Development, or another relevant field,
·         Certification in M&E
·         Experience in facilitating M&E workshops
·         Knowledge of GIS and Remote Sensing
·         Excellent knowledge in data management and analysis applications including Stata, SPSS, R and Advanced Excel.
·         Sound knowledge and field experience of humanitarian relief issues and a commitment to humanitarian relief.
·         Demonstrable competence in and enthusiasm for practical training methods.
·         A sound appreciation of the range of personal and technical issues facing relief workers such as health, International law, quality standard, gender etc.
·         Computer literacy in MS Office is essential
·         Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a humanitarian training environment with a focus on Adult Learning.
·         27 years and above
·         Must be able to deliver under strict deadlines and handle pressure effectively.
