programs and protocols. Four years ago, researchers conducted a randomized
control trial of our work, validating our impact on child mortality reduction
and helping us recalibrate programs to better achieve health targets.

Senior Manager, Digital Health Partnerships
Digital health is transforming the
face of healthcare. All around the globe, access to a mobile phone can
mean the difference between life and death. Mobile phones allow families to
call for medical help in emergencies. They help rural pharmacists locate
lifesaving drugs during stockouts. And they enable health workers to track
disease outbreaks, so they can respond quickly and prevent disease from
spreading.
At Living Goods, every community
health worker we work with gets a smartphone on day one. Using our SmartHealth
app, community health workers register households, track maternal health,
monitor infant growth, and diagnose and treat common childhood ailments like
pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria. Living Goods’-supported supervisors also use
smartphones to monitor the performance and target their supervision of
community health workers. And our Ministry of Health partners use the data
collected by these community health workers and supervisors to measure results
and recommend program improvements.
mHealth is at the heart of how we
drive impact, enabling Living Goods and government to gather reliable data,
provide consistent and accurate diagnoses, and deliver high-quality,
cost-effective community health care. However, we do not think that any single
technology is the solution for all contexts. Instead we want to support
partners and governments identify the right solution for them among the growing
number of platforms targeted at CHWs.
