Job Title: Kenya Field Operations Associate
Job Summary: Seeking a strategically minded results oriented professional with experience in people facing work to join our Field Staff Management team in Kenya.
Job Description: One Acre Fund Kenya is now our largest and fastest-growing country of operation. Our vision for 2030 is to end hunger in Kenya and provide a pathway to prosperity for every farming community in the nation.
The Kenya Field Division is the largest team at all of One Acre Fund and plays a crucial role in achieving this goal. We seek to design and execute the program at a high level across Kenya. As the direct service providers, we provide the highest quality service to each and every farmer while ensuring that we are working efficiently in a way that allows us to have the right forward-thinking plans to serve future farmers for years to come.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
People Management
·         The Field Division consists of over 100 HQ-based staff members, and another 2,600 field staff operating in our core working areas. Program Associates have the opportunity to hold many different management roles, from managing a sub-team of 20 call agents to managing an area expert with whom they jointly implement improvement projects. These different management challenges provide a lot of different opportunities for associates to build their own management capacity and become important force multipliers.
·         Specific management tasks include facilitating impactful weekly check-ins with all reports, holding bi-annual coffee chats with all members of the team in their reporting lines, conducting bi-annual performance reviews for all staffers, and supporting on the creation and tracking of development areas through tools like development plans and promotion plans. The Field Division has the tradition of growing its staff in a way that allows them to continually take on additional responsibilities and be ready for exciting new challenges, within the department itself or One Acre Fund in general.
·         The Field Program Associate is responsible for ensuring that all team members in their reporting line receive the support they need to complete their project goals, while simultaneously supporting their professional development and providing them with stretch opportunities to grow their careers at One Acre Fund.
Project and Portfolio Management
·         In the Field Division, team members take on specific improvement projects, in addition to their functional portfolio management responsibilities. This allows the team member to oversee excellent design and execution while also making specific actionable changes and improvements. This allows our team to not only serve our current farmers with excellence but also set the table for us to better serve future farmers.
·         Sample projects include:
1.   Tablet Transition: Technology offers a lot of opportunities to a disperse field program, such as OAF’s. This project would set the entire field staff up to receive tablets, train staff how to use them, and then strategize how to leverage their versatility to improve program outcomes. This project could have amazing gains for operations and efficiency. We see tablets as fundamentally changing the way that we implement our program. The owner of this project would have substantial opportunities to affect the future of the program.
2.   Field Team Management Support and Training: With over 2,900 field staff for the 2020 season, we need to provide team members with the right management techniques and skills. This exciting portfolio will have the opportunity to have direct management over district performance improvement efforts and professional development curricula. This project is an excellent opportunity to take the team from good to great and really make an impact on the Kenya Field team.
3.   Service Delivery: One key to OAF’s success is our aptitude in delivery and customer service. It is vital that we continue to improve upon this strength and make the last mile of delivery as successful as possible. This project owner would oversee all of the field-facing aspects of delivery and be responsible for the systematic improvement of our customer experience. We see this area as crucial to remaining committed to our value of putting farmers first and setting the stage for positive future growth.
4.   Field Staff Strategy and Research: With a remote based team, OAF Kenya is always looking for improvements to hiring and promotions, team management and administrative functions. The person that oversees this project work will have the opportunity to think creatively about some of the most important management issues in the international development sector.
·         Excellent Deliverables, Flexibility, and Timeliness
1.   As a Field Program Associate, your work will be seen by thousands of staff members and possibly hundreds of thousands of farmers. This means the standards that you are held to is high. After 6 months, you are expected to oversee excellent design and execution, with little oversight from your direct manager.
2.   Deliverables should be easily understood by all and be able to convey complex ideas in limited space.
3.   The Field Division works within the time constraints of the field program. This occasionally means quick pivots. All members of the team are expected to hit agreed upon timelines and be prepared to pivot priorities, based on field needs.

Job Title: Development Associate – Grant Management
Job Summary: Seeking a proven and passionate grants manager with 5+ year of global development experience, to ensure we deliver on our highest value grants.
Job Description
One Acre Fund is devoted to improving our level of service to Africa’s smallholders season after season. We are constantly growing in scale, impact, and sustainability; our ability to do so reliably and rapidly depends on raising and delivering on grants from a wide range of partners, including institutional funders with complex funding requirements.
We are seeking a highly capable and motivated individual to work with our Senior Director for Business and Partnership Development to support the end-to-end delivery of some of our most important and complex grants – including day-to-day donor engagement, project management support, coordination with program teams to ensure effective delivery, and donor reporting. This role will be at the center of a dynamic, evolving portfolio as One Acre Fund grows and diversifies its program and funding model, and we’re looking for someone excited and energized by the opportunity.
Communication (both written and verbal) to a diverse set of stakeholders will be critical to the success of this role, and we want someone who has a true passion for this, and in particular for communicating complicated ideas in a clear and compelling way.
Prior experience with fundraising is not required in this role – being a structured and inspiring communicator, with a good business mind and experience designing and/or implementing development programs are the most important prerequisites. Strong project management skills are also important, as this person will need to ensure that key stakeholders both internally and externally are aligned and working toward established milestones.
This is a support role, focused on implementation of existing relationships. However, this is also a career-track position, with significant growth potential to take on ownership of key relationships over time. In the long term, this position has multiple pathways to management, based on performance – including managing other team members and/or managing an independent portfolio of donor relations.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Program team liaison and support (40%)
·         Responsible for facilitating program team engagement and alignment, and tracking delivery against agreed milestones, budgets and timelines for steady-state portfolio of 4-5+ complex grants
·         Supporting program staff, as required, in achieving key grant deliverables (e.g. revising theories of change, crafting learning agenda and knowledge dissemination strategies, researching and integrating industry best practice)
·         Identifying potential project risks and elevating to senior stakeholders for mitigation and/or changes to strategy
·         Working with the finance team to ensure timely spend-down of grant budget, including supporting the introduction of new financial management systems such as timesheets and project codes
Grant reporting (30%)
·         Responsible for all aspects of reporting, including program narrative, M&E, KPI’s and budget (working with relevant internal stakeholders) for steady-state portfolio of 4-5+
·         Some key characteristics of our writing:
·         We emphasize clear logical flow in our writing, and make heavy use of hard M&E results and projections, business rationale, and a farmer-facing perspective
·         Because this role will be a regular liaison with program teams, we expect the role to develop strong program knowledge which can be directly translated into grant reports (limiting additional program team input into reporting)
Partnership management (20%)
·         Responsible for the day-to-day relationship management for grants, including owning regular communication flow with strategic partners
·         Establishing and managing processes for donor–program communication and coordination
Partnership development (10%)
·         Supporting new partnership development, through identifying, researching and supporting outreach and engagement
