The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in collaboration with the University of Washington (UW) is conducting research studies in Kenya.
We are looking for a Clinical
Research Coordinator who is motivated, committed, and honest. This person will
oversee three large pediatric studies in Migori County and will manage three
Deputy Study Coordinators.
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in collaboration with the University of Washington (UW) is conducting research studies in Kenya.
The KEMRI/UW research collaboration
aims to conduct interdisciplinary, setting-specific research aimed at improving
the lives of women and children in Kenya. Specifically, our research strives to
understand various infectious diseases afflicting these populations and testing
interventions.
The Clinical Research Coordinator
will report directly to the study Principal Investigator/s.
The KEMRI / UW team seeks to recruit
a dynamic, innovative and experienced person to fill the following position:
Clinical Research Coordinator
The Clinical Research Coordinator
will have oversight of the implementation of three large pediatric research
studies and any affiliated sub-studies. S/he will be expected to monitor and
provide guidance on Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) in each study,
ensure data quality and completeness, and mentor the three deputy study
coordinators to resolve any protocol issues that may arise. This person will
also be expected to resolve conflicts between study staff, support the
community advisory board, and ensure transparent record keeping in site
expenditures.
S/he will work with hospital and
county officials to maintain a good relationship between KEMRI and our partner
institutions. S/he will attend weekly meetings for each study and should be
able to attend one to two international trips per year for team meetings.
The Clinical Research Coordinator
will report directly to the study Principal Investigator/s.
Required Qualifications:

Degree in Clinical Medicine or
Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and the necessary professional registration
documents
·
Experience coordinating clinical
trials
·
Minimum of four years of experience
coordinating clinical research studies
·
Ability to review and provide input
on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and case report forms (CRFs)
·
Experience mentoring junior staff
·
Experience tracking budgets and other
research coordination activities
·
Good communication skills and
responsive to emails and phone calls
·
Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and
Excel
·
Ready to work under pressure and be a
team player
·
Ability and willingness to travel
internationally
·
Able to multi-task
·
Be a team player
·
Highly detail oriented
·
Must have Certificate of good conduct
·
Must have KRA Certificate of Tax
compliance
·
Must have Clearance Certificate from
HELB
·
Must have credit reference Bureau
Certificate
Terms of Employment:
One year renewable contract as per
KEMRI scheme of service and a probation period for the first 3 months.
The successful candidate shall be
based in Migori.
Remuneration: Compensation
is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant
experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI
salary scales.
