Reporting
to the News Editor, the job holder will be responsible for leading the coverage
of the region to deliver well-researched multi-media articles for the news,
analyses and features sections of the Nations and digital platforms. The
Regional Editor will also be responsible for coordination and management of the
Regional Office’s operations and leadership of the Editorial team to ensure
productivity, ethical journalism and adherence to the Editorial Policy and
house style and meeting of deadlines. The vacancy is available in our Nyeri
Regional Office.
Responsibilities
·
Lead from the front by writing high
quality articles;

Develop and maintain a rich list of
sources with diverse backgrounds;
·
Generate ideas for news, special
reports and projects through planning and effective and efficient allocation of
resources;

Follow up on running stories;
·
Prepare daily docket for discussion
with News Editor;

Assign, brief and debrief writers to
ensure quality;

Edit stories for accuracy, balance,
fairness and legal soundness, ensuring they meet journalistic ethics, editorial

Saturday Magazine Editor
Job

Reporting
to the Editor, Saturday Nation, the job holder will be responsible for overall
content generation and editing of the Saturday Magazine to sustain its
readership and attract new readers.
Responsibilities
·
Taking responsibility for the quality
and quantity of the editorial content of the magazine pages;
·
Maintaining a diary of events;
·
Assessing the social climate and
anticipating likely developments for coverage;
·
Briefing reporters and advising them
on what angles to take on a story;
·
Guiding reporters and writers on the
coverage and writing of stories;

Reporting
to the Editor- Education, the job holder will be responsible for editing
stories on higher Education, writing captions, placing pictures and writing
headlines in a way that conforms to journalistic ethics, editorial objectives
and house style within set deadlines.
Responsibilities
·
Checking and correcting editorial
copy allocated by the Editor, Education or the Chief Sub Editor for facts,
accuracy, libel, taste, house-style, language use, clarity, details,
objectivity and spelling;
·
Subbing the copy to fit allocated
space without distorting facts or dispensing with the salient points;
·
Writing or rewriting the appropriate
headline for the copy, ensuring it reflects the overriding message of the
story;
·
Editing the pictures selected to fit
the allocated space, and writing/rewriting appropriate captions taking care not
to merely state the obvious details;
·
Submitting the edited copy within set
deadlines;
·
Designing the editorial pages as
directed by the Chief Sub-Editor or Editor, Education;
·
Checking all headlines, captions,
pictures, copy text and page logos and all other page elements to sign the

Job

Reporting
to the Editor, Education, the job holder will be responsible for coordinating
and managing the operations of Juniorspot pullout magazine by generating high
quality, fresh, fun, exciting, captivating and engaging content for the target
readership, while adhering to basic journalistic principles, ethics and the
Nation Media Group house style and the Newspapers in Education (NiE) objectives
and editorial policy.
Responsibilities
·
Plan, source and manage content
ensuring it meets NiE objectives and is suitable for children;
·
Help identify and track relevant
stories/events for the publication from across the country;
·
Edit and sieve through content to
ensure final product meets NMG standards and requirements and suits the target
groups;
·
Work closely with regional teams to
ensure a national outlook of the publication;
·
Work closely with graphic designers
to place and layout content pages and ensure timely production of the

job holder will provide first-stop quality check for stories by verifying
facts, re-writing, revising, subbing and packaging print and online content,
making sure they conform to editorial objectives, journalistic ethics, quality
and house style, and ensuring that the stories reflect Day 2 journalism. He/
she will work closely with the News Editor and Chief Sub Editor for quality
check and advisory on story placement and treatment.
Responsibilities

Fact checking, recasting and
rewriting stories in conformity with NMG’s house style and editorial policy;
·
Advising News Editor or Chief Sub
about placement and treatment of stories;
