Leaders in Innovation Fellowship
Programme – 2018
Innovation Leadership Programme is a collaborative programme between the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KENIA), the National Research Fund (NRF) – Kenya, and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng)-UK. The programme is implemented under the umbrella of Kenya-UK Newton Fund Programme.
KENIA is therefore inviting
researchers with technological innovations and have developed or are in the
process of developing business proposition for their innovations to apply for
the Leaders in Innovation fellowship Programme – 2018.
Innovation Leadership Programme is a collaborative programme between the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KENIA), the National Research Fund (NRF) – Kenya, and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng)-UK. The programme is implemented under the umbrella of Kenya-UK Newton Fund Programme.
The purpose of the programme is to
nurture Kenyan technological innovators and support commercialization of
innovations. The programme is a platform for developing capacity on
entrepreneurship and commercialization of research outputs including
intellectual property right issues.
To apply for the Programme,
innovators need to meet the following selection criteria.
i. Be a Kenyan citizen;
ii. Have a technological innovation
based on research, from a technological field not limited to engineering but
including: agricultural technology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, civil
engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, ICT, materials science,
mechanical engineering, chemical and Biological sciences, and medical
engineering.
iii. Be attached to an institution –
either a research institution, a university or an innovation/ incubation
Centre;
iv. Have a technological Innovation
with expected benefit(s) to Kenya’s National development Agenda;
v. The primary application of the
innovation must NOT be in defense or military sector
Selected candidates will be invited
to attend a two-week residential capacity building Programme in the UK
sponsored by RAEng under the Newton Fund.
After the capacity building
programme, the innovators will be required within one week to submit to KENIA a
copy of their innovation business plan. Those with the most viable business
plans will be selected and granted a commercialization grant of up to a maximum
of up to Kenya Shillings Five Million (KSh. 5,000,000.00).
