Our client in in Wildlife Conservation in Laikipia Region, Kenya is looking to fill the following position:

Full Time Workshop & Infrastructure Manager
The Company is seeking to employ a mature, motivated and experienced person as a live-in Workshop and Infrastructure Manager of the Conservancy reporting to the General Manager.
The role is primarily focused on fleet maintenance but requires an individual who is also comfortable with a multitude of other areas of maintenance that are essential for the smooth running of the conservancy.
The candidate is required to be familiar with most of the following though not all are obligatory:
Four-wheel drive vehicles, trucks, tractors, power generators, water pumps, motors, solar systems, cold storage, swimming pools, refrigeration, procurement, vehicle inspection processes and requirements, purchasing processes, plumbing, electricity, carpentry, masonry, and general road and building maintenance.
Responsibilities:
The main responsibility of the role will be to ensure the efficient day-to-day running of the activities of the workshop and the maintenance of the Conservancy infrastructure overall.
The successful candidate will be a suitably qualified individual with solid management experience and who will bring a pro-active approach, and ‘can do’ attitude to the role. The role will require excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to develop relationships with staff in other areas of the business.
Duties will include:
·         Building an effective and passionate team to deliver all work to a high standard and in a timely manner
·         Proactively identifying areas where maintenance is required and delivering time and cost efficient management of any projects
·         Approving estimates and quotations
·         Assisting with technical problems as necessary
·         Controlling and coordinating all workshop activities
·         Oversight and management of the discipline and the working conditions within Workshops & Stores
·         Ensure that equipment and facilities in the Workshops are maintained and in good working condition and to keep an inventory of the same.
·         Ensure that the Workshop Stores is properly stocked with necessary spares, equipment and facilities necessary for the performance of his duties
·         Manage fuel dispensing, consumption and prepare monthly fuel returns
·         Maintenance of all Conservancy vehicles and equipment.
·         Overseeing the general grounds maintenance
·         Electricity generation
·         Water production, metering, treatment & distribution
·         Roads, dams, fences, infrastructure and projects.
·         Preparation of yearly and monthly budgets for his department and being accountable for the same
·         Introduce & implement standard operating procedures as deemed necessary
·         Observe existing work procedures and documentation, make changes where necessary
·         Ensure work safety and use of PPE
·         Familiarize him/herself with Conservation and the goals of the business
Skills & Experience desired
Essential
·         8-10 years technical experience, primarily relating to automotive environment
·         5 plus years working in a management or senior supervisory role
·         Sound knowledge of business systems and financial concepts including budgeting and reporting
Preferable
·         B-Tech Mechanical Engineer + Management Diploma
·         A minimum of five years in a similar position is an added advantage
·         5 years General Building and/or Project Management of infrastructure maintenance and development tasks
·         5 years Mechanical Engineering
·         Qualified Artisan advantageous
Experience of working in conservation and/or Tourism industry will be beneficial but not essential
Attributes:
·         Knowledge and ability to implement effective operating procedures to improve the efficiency and quality of all work delivered by Workshop staff are essential.
·         Demonstrates business skills, asks the relevant questions and resolves anomalies
·         Able to operate on own initiative, to think through issues and develop solutions and improve ways of working
·         Provides strong leadership to a small workshop team and has the ability to develop the team
·         Developing close working relationships with all areas of the business and be the go to person for all day to day matters
·         Ability to understand the business drivers and has the gravitas to command respect from the senior managers and external advisors

Full Time Senior Carpenter
Reporting to the Workshop & Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Carpenter, will performs a multitude of carpentry tasks from start to finish, often coordinating jobs with other skilled labour (plumbers, electricians)
Duties will include:
·         Performs all duties of Carpentry with additional responsibilities involved with managing and supervising major projects (blueprint reading required).

·         Assists the Workshop and Infrastructure Manager in determining work assignments and allocating resources.
·         Assess materials and estimate cost required for given projects and follow-up of pending works with reports
·         Lead or direct the activities of other Carpenters.
·         Analyse, plan and perform carpentry works within given time frame.
·         Make different kinds of furniture / joinery with good finishing.
·         Give proposals of joinery work on the best and cost effective approach.
·         Knowledge in the use of electric carpentry equipment i.e. planners, jigsaws, sander and drills.
Skills & Experience desired
Essential
·         Academic “O” level or equivalent;
·         Government Grade III certificate in carpentry and joinery or an equivalent;
·         Good computer skills;
·         Have a valid driver’s licence;
·         At least 5 years’ experience in similar position.

Full Time Senior Plumber
Reporting to the Workshop and Infrastructure Manager, the Senior Plumber will perform a multitude of plumbing tasks which include installing, maintaining, and repairing of pipes and fixtures associated with heating, cooling, water distribution, and sanitation systems in residential and commercial structures
Duties will include:
·         Assist the Workshop and Infrastructure Manager in determining work assignments and allocating resources.
·         Lead or direct the activities of other plumbers.
·         Give proposals of plumbing work on the best and cost effective approach
·         Collaborates with contractors, construction workers, electricians, pipefitters, and steamfitters in installing and repairing plumbing
·         Installs heating and air-conditioning systems, including water heaters
·         Maintain and repair damaged sinks, broken pipes, WCs, clogged drains, etc.
·         Install underground sanitary, drainage, and water supply piping systems
·         Utilize provided tools in fitting of valves, couplings and components for tanks, pumps or other plumbing system
·         Ensure that bore holes submersible pumps and booster pumps are always in working and serviceable state.
·         Dig trenches/install pipes and piping fixtures for water or sewage systems
·         Ensure compliance with building codes and set safety standards
·         Inspect plumbing systems to identify issues and initiate repairs
·         Liaise with the Workshop and Infrastructure Manager to ensure an effective plumbing system within the conservancy
Skills & Experience desired
Essential
·         Academic “O” level
·         Government Grade III certificate in Plumbing or an equivalent
·         Good communication skills
·         4-7years experience in similar position
Preferable
·         Good Computer Skills
·         Experience of working in conservation and/or Tourism industry will be beneficial but not essential
