Industrial Safety & Environment Internship

The purpose of the Program is to provide an opportunity for university and college students to become familiar with the operations of Kenya Airways, and to acquire work experience at the professional level through on-the-job training during vacations before resuming your studies.
During the internship, students shall be placed in one of the departments or units of Kenya Airways and, to the extent possible, shall be given assignments relevant to their current studies. Before the end of the program, the interns must submit a brief report about their experience/ learning in Kenya Airways and provide ideas and suggestions that can help improve the Program in future years.

Conditions of Internship
Kenya Airways does not provide medical insurance cover for Interns. Those selected for internship will be required to submit proof of medical insurance while at Kenya Airways.
Since the hiring for the Internship Program is done locally, Kenya Airways does not pay transportation costs whatsoever.
Because Internship Program is addressed to students who are pursuing their degree programs or diploma programs, participation in the program will not extend beyond three (3) months.
Documentation that will be required should you be selected for internship are:
·         Letter from learning institution requesting for internship and confirming that this is part of the course requirement
·         Original and copy of KCSE/GCSE Certificate
·         Certificate of Good Conduct
·         Insurance cover

Qualifications

·         To be eligible for the Kenya Airways Internship Program, you must be:
·         A citizen of Kenya A student pursuing an undergraduate degree/College diploma in an accredited university/college, who will continue his/her graduate studies or graduate right after the period of the internship. Preferably Bachelor of Science (With a bias in Safety & Environment).
·         Have a minimum grade of B (plus) in KCSE or equivalent O’level certification
·         Candidates afforded internship in the past by Kenya Airways are not eligible to apply

Enterprise Systems – Systems Administrator
To maintain and administrator IS infrastructure, which includes Data centres,servers, storage, systems software and data centre facilities (UPS, AC and firesuppression), in order to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of Kenya Airways business systems.
The role has the responsibility to perform systems control, monitoring, evaluation, analysis and recommend areas of support improvements including recommendation of tools, minor systems infrastructure modifications and upgrades in order to improve efficiency, productivity and create value add to the IT services.
The role has the responsibility for consultation to IS development section, Systems Administrators and the business to provide technical support to all IS Business application projects to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Provide service that meets the SLA agreements by resolving calls within 2 hours resolution time

Responsibilities

·         Ensure the % of systems infrastructure availability is well above the SLA levels.
·         Install, configure as well as maintain storage and backup hardware inclusive of physical plus virtual tape libraries or drives along with disk storage targets.
·         Perform activities related to install, configure and managing SAN and NAS devices and fibre switches.
·         Administer Brocade and MDS FC switches as well as blade chassis FC devices.
·         Execute FC zoning for Test, development and production storage volumes.
·         Manage NetApp and EMC snapshot as well as recovery methods for storage volumes.
·         Execute across-site replication of critical production data.
·         Supervise volume replication overnight jobs and execute improvements.
·         Oversee IO performance of production along with development of databases LUNs.
·         Provide architecture as well as performance recommendations to DBAs and System Administrators
·         Conduct bottleneck evaluation to identify performance issues.

·         Ensure backup methods are in place as well as tested for FC LUNs.
·         Develop and maintain records for entire storage, servers, Server enclosures, Data center facilities as well as FC systems
·         Collaborate with DBA as well as System administrators to assure optimized storage usage.
·         Maintain data centre facilities including clean power systems, cooling systems, Fire suppression systems and environment monitoring systems.

Qualifications

·         University Graduate in IT or Diploma with 3 years in IS infrastructure management
Certification in Unix/Solaris/Linux administration and/or MCITP
·         Training in Data Center management
·         Certification or Training in NAS and SAN
·         Good understanding & problem solving techniques in Sun Solaris/ Linux o/s and Microsoft Windows(2003/2008), Active Directory 2008 & Exchange 2007/2010
·         Experience in ITIL or MOF Service Delivery Framework (ITIL Certification is an added advantage).

Qualifications

·         University Degree (Minimum upper 2nd class) from recognized institution in Aeronautical; Electrical/Electronics; Mechanical or Telecommunications Engineering or Computer Engineering.
·         An overall KCSE grade of B+ (plus) and above or its equivalent
·         Must be between 24-27 years
·         Computer literate
·         Work experience in an engineering environment will be an added advantage
