GBV Caseworkers
The IRC operates within Kakuma
Refugee Camp. Most of the refugees originate from South Sudan with new arrivals
being received regularly. Some of the refugees undergo Sexual and Gender Based
Violence (SGBV) while on transit or at the border point but face the
disadvantage of not having access to SGBV services. As part of enhancing timely
and comprehensive care to survivors of SGBV, the IRC intends to broaden its
scope in provision of psychosocial support and health services to SGBV
survivors at Nadapal border in Turkana West and also within Kakuma refugee
Camp.
The WPE/GBV case Worker will offer
GBV screening services, holistic case management to survivors while ensuring
improved quality of health and psychosocial support, support in development of
a functional referral networks that enhance survivors’ ability to receive
confidential, safe, and timely services that meets their needs.
Key Responsibilities
·
Provide direct support and care for
adult survivors of GBV and age-appropriate specialized support and care for
adolescents, male and child survivors of GBV, including counseling and case
management.
·
Ensure proper documentation of
reported GBV incidences through utilization of GBVIMS case intake, action,
follow up and other case management forms appropriately.
·
Ensure safety of survivors is
guaranteed by adhering to GBV guiding principles and use of survivor centered
approach.
·
Support in developing and
strengthening referral networks and monitor the implementation of the referral
pathway to improve survivors’ access to confidentiality, safe GBV services in a
timely manner to meet their needs.
·
Deliver information on available
services to SGBV survivors to ensure informed decision making process and
appropriate referrals are done
·
In consultations with women and girls,
develop and support to implement a series of age-appropriate and group
emotional and social support activities for women and girls, with an emphasis
on meeting the needs of survivors of GBV and strengthening support networks
among women and girls.
·
In consultations with GBV officer,
develop and implement/ share monthly response plan and GBV key issues based on
case trends to disseminate information on services available and referral
pathways.
·
Make routine follow up to cases of
SGBV survivors at home and various partner organizations referred to ascertain
their wellbeing and services received.
·
Prepare and submit weekly &
monthly reports as required and incorporate supervisors’ feedback in a timely
manner, including information related to survivor non- identifying data,
treatment provided, follow up visits, drugs availability, referrals to other
service providers and awareness activities conducted etc.
·
Participate in the development of
procurement and spending plans and work plans to ensure the successful
implementation of programs
·
Ensure supplies/resources are
requested on a timely manner for timely implementation of program activities
including manage/prepare contingency program stock supplies where necessary.
·
Monitor and track utilization of
program supplies and resources to ensure efficient use of available resources.
·
Ensure tracking of key program
indicators and progress through utilization of GBVIMS, M&E data collection
and indicator tracking tools.
·
Perform any other duties as assigned
by the supervisor.
Key Result Areas:
·
Ensure timely and comprehensive
screening of SGBV psychosocial services.
·
Support adherence to GBV referral
protocols and guiding principles for working with survivors
·
Assess gaps in GBV prevention and
response services, make recommendations/suggestions for improvements to the
supervisor and develop, in consultation with the team and Manager, strategies
to address the gaps
Qualifications
·
Diploma in Social Work / Social
Sciences / Counseling / psychology / health or other related field preferred.
Degree in similar fields would be an added advantage.
·
At least 3 years’ experience in the
direct provision of counseling and psychosocial support to survivors of Gender
Based Violence, including child survivors
·
Clear understanding, including demonstrated
positive attitudes on gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence
against women and girls STRONGLY preferred.
·
Excellent listening and observation
skills, including ability to create trust, support, respect and interact with
survivors of all ages, background and diversity
·
Ability to lead, train, supervise,
and motivate other GBV staff and local partners in their respective tasks in a
professional, respectful and supportive manner.
·
Ability to maintain confidentiality,
non-discrimination and respect for clients.
·
Has a positive and professional
attitude ability to work with minimal supervision and in a hardship area.
·
Flexibility in work including working
outside of normal working hours when necessary.
·
Knowledge of English and Kiswahili is
a must (knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage)
·
Experience working with refugee
population
·
Clear understanding on use of GBVIMS
will be an added advantage.

Nutrition Officer
Working under the guidance and
supervision of the Nutrition Manager, the Nutrition Officer will be directly
responsible for implementation of the Integrated Management of Acute
Malnutrition (IMAM) program, nutrition surveillance, hospital feeding,
nutrition education & counseling and promotion of maternal infant and young
child nutrition in the camp.
Key Responsibilities
·
Implement and supervise the inpatient
and outpatient therapeutic feeding of severely malnourished under-fives while
following the stipulated protocol.
·
Implement and supervise the
supplementary feeding of the moderately malnourished under-fives,
pregnant/lactating mothers, individuals with medical conditions (HIV/AIDS and
TB).
·
Ensure the Blanket Supplementary
Feeding Program (BSFP) activities are implemented successfully.
·
Implement comprehensive maternal
infant and young child nutrition program (MIYCN) with strong Baby Friendly
Hospital Initiative (BFHI) and Baby Friendly Community initiative (BFCI)
approaches.
·
Supervise and monitor the hospital
inpatients diet including the special diets for medical cases like diabetes,
TB, HIV/AIDS, Hypertensive among others.
·
Train and mentor the nutrition
program staff and the integrated community health promoters through
identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on the
job trainings.
·
Plan and conduct trainings on Growth
Monitoring Promotion (GMP), IMAM and MIYCN to other mainstream health
professionals.
·
Develop key messages in nutrition to
the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately.
·
Offer nutrition support through
counseling to individuals with medical conditions including Comprehensive Care
Clinic clients.
·
Plan and conduct the annual health
and nutrition surveys together with other stakeholders in the camp.
·
Plan and conduct mass MUAC screening
of the under fives on a quarterly basis in collaboration with the Community
Health Promoters.
·
Work closely with other nutrition
related programs such as HIV/AIDS, Environmental Health, Clinical Services and
Community Health Program in order to improve the nutrition situation in the
camp.
·
Compile and submit donor and IRC
Nutrition Program weekly, biweekly and monthly reports of all the activities
implemented, as well prepare food requisitions.
·
Coordinate Nutrition meetings with
IRC and participate in Project monitoring, Review and Evaluation.
·
Represent IRC in Nutrition
Coordination meetings with Implementing partners and other Nutrition /Health
related forums.
·
Lease with Supply Chain Department in
logistical Program Supplies procurement and Monitoring Supply control
·
Stock monitoring of various
commodities
·
Any other duties as assigned by the
supervisor.
Qualifications
·
Bachelor degree in Food, Nutrition
and Dietetics from a recognized University.
·
Must be a registered nutrition or
dietitian KNDI
Required Experience &
Competencies:
·
Minimum 1 years work experience in
community nutrition and implementation.
·
Experience in maternal infant and
young nutrition with strong BFHI & BFCI approaches.
·
Experience in nutrition survey and
assessments.
·
Good communication and interpersonal
skills.
·
Strong report writing and team
working skills.
·
Knowledge in computer packages and
basic analysis skills.
·
Experience in Nutrition and HIV/AIDS
programming added advantage.
·
Ability to work in hardship areas
(previous experience in a camp setting will be an added advantage).
