Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO) is a Constituent College of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology. The University College is established under Section 3 of the Kaimosi Friends University College Order, 87 of 2015. 

The University College is located in Vihiga County within a serene environment conducive for learning. KAFUCO aims to fulfill its Vision of being a center of academic excellence, innovation and holistic development.


The Council of the University College invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons with excellent academic and credentials to provide strategic and visionary leadership to the University College in the positions of the Principal and Deputy Principals of the College. 

The successful applicants are expected to take the lead in spurring robust infrastructural development, ensuring financial stability and growth, expansion of innovation and relevant academic programmes, an enhanced student population, and result oriented staff management.
 
Vacancy for Position of Principal

Requirements
 
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
1.           Must be a full Professor and holder of an earned Doctorate degree for at least three (3) years from a recognized University;
2.           Have at least ten (10) years of hands-on academic and research experience at senior level and demonstrated leadership and management skills in an academic or research institution;
3.           Should have served substantively for eight (8) years with demonstrable results at least as academic dean or director and above in a recognized University;
4.           Be outstanding and internationally recognized scholar as evidenced by publications in internationally refereed journals or University level books (at least ten (10) in the last five years);
5.           Be an accomplished scholar with proven track record in formulating and managing academic programmes, successfully supervised Masters and Ph.D. students and mentoring postgraduate and academic colleagues;
6.           Have a good understanding and demonstrated experience of governance structures, Public Finance management and fiscal policies, infrastructural growth, strategic planning and Vision 2030, performance management, human resource management and development, procurement and asset disposal legal requirements;
7.           Have an excellent understanding of current trends in University education and training in Kenya and globally, and a broad awareness of the factors and conditions shaping the development of university education;
8.           Have demonstrated ability and experience in managing student affairs and strategic institutional linkages;
9.           Have excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
10.        Have demonstrated ability to network, fundraise, mobilize training and research grants towards the development of the University;
11.        Must be of high ethical standards, integrity, accountability, professionalism, teamwork and stewardship and comply with the requirements of Chapter Six of the Kenya Constitution.
12.        Applicants with postgraduate qualification in management sciences will have an added advantage.
13.        Comply with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Duties and Responsibilities
 
The Principal shall as provided in the Universities Act and the University College Statutes:
1.           Carry out responsibilities as detailed therein as the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer;
2.           Be the academic and administrative head of the University College, and as such be responsible to Council for the efficient management of the University College resources, both human and material;
3.           Have the overall responsibility for the direction, organization and administration of programmes of the University College;
4.           Be the Chairperson of the Management and Academic Boards, and in that capacity provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Council and coordinate key technical, financial and administrative matters to Council;
5.           Make proposals and submit reports to Council for approval on; University College policies;Fees and charges;Annual estimates and procurement plans; staff establishment and promote partnerships and linkages including public-private partnerships among others;
6.           Be responsible for fundraising and sustainable development of the University College;
7.           Provide leadership in performance based management through development and application of a result based performance management system;
8.           Put in place effective administrative structures, processes and systems;
9.           Ensure adherence of policies and systems of the University College;
10.        Undertake such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated by Council.
Tenure of Office: In accordance with the Universities Act (2012), the Principal shall hold office for a term of five (5) years, with the eligibility for a further equivalent term on competitive basis.
 
Terms and Conditions: The above posts carry competitive remuneration package which includes basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover as per the University College’s medical scheme, leave allowance, transport and gratuity at the end of the contract period as per University College provisions.

The Deputy Principal shall report to the Principal and shall be the Head of Academics and Student Affairs and will ensure these functions evolve into pillars of excellence within the University College.
 
Requirements
 
The applicant should;
1.           Be a Professor or Associate Professor and a holder of earned doctorate from a recognized university;

10.        Have a good understanding of government financial and fiscal policies, strategic planning and vision 2030 flagship projects, Public Procurement and Disposal Law;
11.        Have an excellent understanding of the current trends in university education, training and research nationally and globally;
12.        Demonstrate an outstanding ability to communicate effectively and possess excellent interpersonal skills;
13.        Comply with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Deputy Principal in consultation with Principal shall:
1.           Coordinate the development of academic policies of the University College in consultation with the Academic Board and the Senate;
2.           Direct and organize academic policies and programmes of the University College;
3.           Coordinate and manage students affairs;
4.           Coordinate and manage examinations and the preparation of academic transcripts, certificates, diplomas and degrees;
5.           Develop research agenda with clear guidelines on research alliances and partnerships nationally and internationally;
6.           Develop and implement strategies to facilitate growth in revenue to support research and innovation;

7.           Provide strategic direction, leadership and management of the centres and departments that comprise the research and innovation portfolio;
8.           Oversee the protection and commercialization of the innovations;
9.           Establish linkages with industry and business through local, national and international networks to leverage research outcomes and opportunities;
10.        Perform such other functions and responsibilities assigned by the Principal and University Council as may be necessary and in the interests of the University College as per its rules and regulations;

Duties and Responsibilities
 
Deputy Principal, Finance and Development in consultation with Principal shall:
1.           To provide leadership and direction in the management of University’s College financial resources.
2.           Coordinate the preparation of statutory financial statements and other management reports.
3.           Oversee projects and prepare periodic status reports.
4.           Advice the Principal and the Management Board on financial status of the University.
5.           Develop and implement the enterprise development program to contribute to long term Kaimosi Friends University College’s sustainability.
6.           Make proposals and Coordinate development projects.
7.           Prepare and submit status and review reports on procurement to the Management Board.
8.           Coordinate and oversee the procurement process.
9.           Submit reports on implementation of procurement processes to the Principal.
10.        Undertake such other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned or delegated by the Principal and Council.
11.        Make proposals for development of policies on financial matters.
12.        Oversee the implementation of financial and development policies.
13.        Manage the budgeting process of the University.
14.        Quarterly review infrastructure development and submit reports to the Principal.
15.        Prepare and submit relevant and statutory reports on the division to the Principal.
16.        Perform such other functions and responsibilities assigned by the Principal and University Council as may be necessary and in the interests of the University College as per its rules and regulations;
