Internships
The United Nations Human Settlements
Programme, UN-Habitat, is the agency for human settlements. It is mandated by
the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable
towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
The Internship is UNPAID and
full-time.
Interns work five days per week (35
hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to
which they are assigned.
Responsibilities
·
Conduct research and literature
review for the State of Saudi Cities Report 2018;
·
Contribute to the concept note and
outline of the State of Saudi Cities Report 2018;
·
Contribute to the outline and
substantive review of the various chapters of the State of Saudi Cities Report
2018;
·
Assist in the provision of
illustrative materials including text boxes and verify accuracy of information
in the various chapters of the State of Saudi Cities Report 2018;
·
Compile relevant bibliography for the
State of Saudi Cities Report 2018;
·
Collect and analyze secondary data
relating to the State of Saudi Cities Report 2018;
·
Support organization of stakeholder
engagement as well as preparation of report proceedings.
·
Contribute to the review of data
tables for consistency, errors and compliance with the agreed structure,
categorization of countries, cities and indicators;
·
Perform other research-related tasks
pertaining to the flagship report.
Qualifications
·
Be enrolled in a graduate school
programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
·
Be enrolled in the final academic
year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or
equivalent);
·
Have graduated with a university
degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period
of graduation.
·
Be computer literate in standard
software applications.
·
Applicants are not required to have
professional work experience for participation in the programme.
·
Fluency in oral and written English
is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable.

Health & Wellness Internships
Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office at Nairobi
(UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the
Secretary-General. We support programme implementation of the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UNHABITAT)
globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing Administrative,
conference, Security and information services (www.unon.org).
The UNON Health and Wellness
internship is for 3 months with a possibility for extension depending on the
needs of the Organization.
The Internship is UNPAID and

Responsibilities
·
Under direct supervision of the JMS
Medical Officer, the intern will assist the program manager in the implementation
of the JMS Wellness programme and specifically perform the following duties
under guidance:
·
Assist in the preparation of health
and wellness communication tools.
·
Assist in health promotion and
outreach activities including preparations and logistics for delivery of health
talks, participation in healthy U campaigns, support for wellness group
challenge activities, outreach activities focused on health, nutrition and
fitness.
·
Assist in the dissemination of health
awareness materials and marketing and promoting of the wellness programme
through Innovative application of information technology tools such as online
presence, social media activity, newsletter articles, mobile based applications
and fitness tracking.
·
Assist in monitoring and evalaution
of the wellness programme through surveys and interviews, data collection, and
analysis, report writing and presentation of recommendations.
·
Assist the UN CARES programme with
administrative support for major events such as the annual UN Run and
Children’s HIV training.
·
Can use the activities and
experiences contemplated in this role to learn, to be engaged and involved, and
to gain the core skills as per the learning objectives of the sponsoring
college / institution.
·
Perform any other duties as may be
assigned.

Assist the Special Assistant in strengthening
focus and overall cohesiveness between UN-Habitat’s normative and operational
activities.
·
Analyse information from UN-Habitat’s
programmes and projects with a view of enhancing synergy.
·
Support internal communication and
preparations for meetings on collaboration and information sharing.
·
Prepare briefing notes for meetings
and official trips of the DED in coordination with the Special Assistant and
the Administrative Assistants.
·
Assist in tracking internal
commitments and outputs related to project and programme delivery.
·
Assist the Special Assistant with
regard to her/his role related to information services, communication, and the
servicing of the Committee of Permanent Representatives and the Governing
Council on issues related to projects and programmes.
·
Processing information coming out of
programmes and projects in UN-Habitat’s substantive work areas.
·
Take minutes and prepare draft
reports of meetings.
·
Contribute to the substantive
organization and preparation of the DED’s field missions.
·
Undertake any other duties and
responsibilities consistent with the incumbent’s expertise and that she/he can
be reasonably expected to undertake.
