Accounts Clerk Job in Kenya

Our client who is one of the prestigious hotels in Kitui County is seeking to fill the following position in their set up:
Accounts Clerk

Job Summary: Compile, classify and record data to keep financial records complete. Perform routine calculating posting and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by others.

Job Duties and Tasks for Accounts Clerk
Your responsibilities will include, but not limited to the following;
·         Perform bookkeeping services
·         Prepare purchase orders and expenses reports
·         Check figures, postings and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes
·         Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store and analyze information
·         Debit, credit and total accounts on computer spreadsheets and database using specialized accounting software
·         Classify, record and summarize numerical and financial data in order to compile and keep financial records using journals, ledgers or computer
·         Calculate prepare and issue bills, invoices, accounts statements and other financial statements according to company’s established procedures
·         Compile statistical, financial, accounting and audit reports and tables pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, expenditures, accounts payables & receivables and profit & loss accounts
·         Code documents according to company procedures
·         Access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts
·         Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records
·         Perform financial calculations such as amounts due, interests charges, balances, discounts etc
·         Perform general office duties such as filing answering telephone calls and handling routine correspondences
·         Prepare bank deposits by compiling data from cashiers, verifying and balancing receipts, cheques, cash and vouchers
·         Calculate and prepare cheques for utilities, taxes and other payments
·         Compare computer printouts to manually maintained journals in order to determine whether they match
·         Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
·         Prepare trial balances
·         Monitor status of any bank loans and accounts to ensure that payments are up to date
·         Transfer details from separate journals to general ledger or data processing sheets
·         Compile budget data and documents based on estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets
·         Calculate costs of materials, overheads and other expenses based on estimates, quotations and price lists
·         Compare orders with invoices and record the necessary information and or discrepancies
·         Perform any other duty as may be assigned to you from time to time
Skills needed

·         Management of financial resources – determine how money will be spend to get work done and account for expenditure
Education & Experience
·         Holder of CPA PART II (a Degree in the same field is an added advantage)
·         At least 2 years experience in a busy accounting office
·         Active member of ICPAK
Knowledge,
·         Customer and personal service – knowledge of principles and process for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction
·         Clerical Knowledge – Knowledge of administration and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms and other office procedures and terminologies
·         Mathematics – knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications
·         Economics & Accounting – Knowledge of economics and accounting principles and practice, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
