Research Officer
Job Description: This
research study is seeking a full-time community research officer at Ahero /
Bondo
Responsibilities and Requirements
Responsibilities and Requirements
- Educate local
community health volunteers and community members about the study
- Attend
community advisory board meetings
- Assist with
recruitment of study participants in the field
- Organize focus
group discussions, including setting up the venue, ensuring participants
know the date and time, arranging for supplies and refreshments
- Contact
parents of potential participants, when applicable, and coordinate process
of parental consent with site leader
- Assist with
weekly report-writing and data management
- Participate in
weekly phone call with PI and rest of study staff
Qualifications, Experience
and Skills Required
- KCSE/O-level
or equivalent (diploma in social sciences preferred)
- Experience
working in the community with extensive geographic knowledge of the area
- Able to use
Microsoft Word and email communications
- Past research
experience: At least one year: Can provide reference from PI
- Excellent
communication skills: Must be able to communicate regularly with PI via
email and Skype
- Language
skills: fluency in English, Kiswahili, and Luo, spoken and written
- Holds an up to
date motorbike license
- Team player
with ability to work closely with PI, study coordinator, site leader,
other study staff at the site, community research officers
- Works under
minimum supervision
The appropriate person for
this position will have a non-judgmental approach to adolescent sexuality and
family planning.
Salary: Contract with UW-Kenya for 6 months. Eligible for medical cover. Competitive salary, plus 15% gratuity after completing total 6 month contract.

Interviewer / Site Leader
Job Description: This
research study is seeking a full-time qualitative interviewer / site leader at
Ahero / Bondo
Responsibilities and Requirements
Responsibilities and Requirements
- Educate
community health volunteers and community members about the study
- Attend
community advisory board meetings
- Recruit and
enroll participants into the study
- Conduct
in-depth interviews (IDI) with adolescent women
- Write debrief
summaries and share with Study PI and co-PI
- Conduct focus
group discussions (FGD) with adolescent women and parents
- Collect pre-IDI/FGD
survey data per approved Standard Operating Procedures and input into
Android tablet system
- Submit weekly
summaries of recruitment and enrollment into the study to the study
Principal Investigator (PI) and site-PI
- Participate in
weekly phone call with PI and rest of study staff
- Maintain
communication between study staff and PI
- Ensure strict
compliance with ethical requirements for conduct of research
- Maintain
adequate supplies of study documents and other study supplies at site
- Collect and
submit receipts from any purchases made on behalf of the study to UW-Kenya
country office in Nairobi as Project Field Administrator
Qualifications, Experience,
and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s
degree in social sciences
- Experience
with informed consent procedures
- Prior experience
conducting and transcribing interviews and FGDs:Can provide reference from
PI
- Excellent
computer skills, particularly e-mail and word-processing
- Excellent
communication skills: Must be able to communicate regularly with PI via
email and Skype
- Language
skills: fluency in English, Kiswahili, and Luo, spoken and written
- Those holding
a motorbike license will have an added advantage
- Team player
with ability to work closely with PI, study coordinator, other study staff
at the site, community research officers
- Works under
minimum supervision
