The Kenya Medical Research Institute
(KEMRI) is a State Corporation established in Kenya in 1979 through the Science
and Technology (Repealed) Act, Cap 250 of the Laws of Kenya and as currently established
and dully accredited to continue to operate as such under the Science
Technology and Innovation Act, 2013 as the national body responsible for
carrying out research in health in Kenya.
KEMRI’s vision is “to be a leading centre of excellence in human health
research” and its mission is “to improve human health and quality of life
through research, capacity building, innovation and service delivery”.
Responsibilities
·
Plan, develop, implement and evaluate
human resource strategies, policies, rules and regulations for operational
management and development, to meet agreed organizational performance goals and
objectives;
·
Oversee and coordinate all human
resource management activities including preparation of HR budget, recruitment
and selection, placement, promotion,
career management, training and development, staff welfare, discipline, salary and remuneration management, capacity building and performance management;

Develop and implement processes to
ensure consistency in institutional design, staffing strategies and talent
management;
·
Ensure the development of an
organizational culture that reflects the Institute’s values, promotes
accountability and high performance;

Develop and implement employee
relation practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee
relationship and promote a high level of employee
participation and involvement to achieve optimal labour productivity, industrial harmony and good Institutional image;

Oversee and manage performance
appraisal and management systems that drive high productivity;

Provide technical advice and
interpret HR policies, rules and regulations;
·
Analyze the impact of human resource
management policies, rules and regulations on the staff;

Establish and maintain a human
resource management information system; and Responsible for compliance with
article 10 and 235 of the Constitution.
Qualifications
·
Master’s Degree in Human Resource
Management/Development, Business Administration or any other equivalent
qualification from a recognized institution;
·
Bachelor’s Degree Human Resource
Management option; or any other socialsciences Bachelor’s degree;
·
Higher Diploma or Post Graduate Diploma
in Human Resource Management from a recognized Institution;
·
Served in a large organization for at
least 10 years in Human resource function, five (5) of which must have been in
a senior strategic Human Resource Management position;
·
Full Member of the Institute of Human
Resource Management (IHRM); and valid Practicing License from IHRM.
·
Knowledge of Kenyan labour laws and
the Public Service Human Resource Policies
and Procedure Manual;
and Procedure Manual;
·
Meets the requirement of Chapter six
of the Constitution;
·
A demonstrable ability to drive
organizational value through the implementation of appropriate and diligent HR
management practices;
·
Problem solving , analytical and
orientation to detail skills; and
·
Demonstrate a high degree of
integrity, honesty and commitment to good corporate governance and excellence
in performance.
The following will be required during
the interviews :- Certificate of good conduct, Higher Education Loans Board
compliance certificate, KRA Tax compliance certificate, Credit Reference Bureau
clearance certificate, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission clearance.
Internship Opportunity
The Kenya Medical Research Institute
(KEMRI) through the Centre for Traditional Medicine and Drug Research (CTMDR)
Research scientists is conducting a research project entitled “Isolation and
structure elucidation of antimalarial compounds from selected plants used
traditionaly for treatment of malaria in Kilifi county, Kenya.
The project has an opportunity for short term internship position. The purpose
of this position is to provide opportunities, induct and provide practical
workplace experience in research under the Tissue Culture Laboratory.
Internship Duration: 3 months

Qualifications

BSc. Degree in Biochemistry,
Parasitology or any related field and experience of working in
parasite culture laboratory

Evidence of experience and
publication(s) in the related field will be an added advantage
Responsibilities
·
Day to day maintenance of protozoan
parasites in a busy tissue culture laboratory;
·
Carrying out drug sensitivity
bioassays using the SYBR green 1 dye and the radio-isotope method;
·
Avail draft report every month on the
research progress;
·
Be available for meetings to discuss
with the Principal Investigator the progress of the analysis;
·
Draft final report on the key
findings from the study.
