Data Manager
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS
Foundation (EGPAF) is the global leader in the fight against pediatric HIV/AIDS
and has reached more than 26 million women, with services to prevent
transmission of HIV to their babies. EGPAF is supporting activities in 19
countries and nearly 6,000 sites to implement prevention, care and treatment
services; to further advance innovative research; and to execute global
advocacy activities that bring dramatic change to the lives of millions of
women, children and families worldwide.
The Foundation seeks a Data Manager
with experience in the collection, organization, analysis and reporting of
quantitative data, including large data sets of patient-level data. The Data
Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing data quality
strategies and training staff, including MOH staff, on data quality management.
The Data Manager will work with the EGPAF evaluation/research unit and support all
research and evaluation activities.
Duties
·
Under the leadership of thePublic
Health Evaluation (PHE) and Data Management Leads, oversee and coordinate data
entry and management, including data quality control
·
Participate in the design of the
study database and guiding documents (i.e. data entry tools, data dictionary,
user guidance and job aids). ) Work with Principal Investigator (PI), under the
guidance of the PHE Lead, to develop and implement the e data analysis plan
·
Develop and execute procedures for
the abstraction and merging of data records from source databases into a study
database
·
Contribute to the design of
protocols, which includes the methodology, analysis, quality control and
reporting sections for both quantitative and qualitative data.
·
Responsible for the writing,
training, and oversight of the data management Standard Operating Procedures
(SOPs), job aids, guidance etc.
·
Document data management-related
changes
·
Maintain manual logs of data queries
generated and their resolution
·
Liaise with study coordinator to
follow-up data errors, discrepancies, and missing information for ongoing data
cleaning
·
Maintain a log of data collection
forms flow between Data Center (DC) and the study sites
·
Maintain the integrity, security and
data backup of the study database
·
Perform ongoing data quality checks
·
Responsible for data validation
through reconciliation process
·
Perform preliminary quantitative
analysis on research datasets.
Qualifications
·
Degree in information technology,
health information management, statistics, epidemiology or any relevant
scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and
education/training.
·
Minimum three years’ experience as a
data manager for research.
·
Experience in a health-related
research and program evaluation desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
·
Knowledge of database languages, such
as SQL is essential
·
Knowledge of statistical packages,
e.g. STATA, SPSS and basic statistical analyses preferable
·
Good understanding of data
processing/management
·
Excellent database computing skills,
including a high level of competency in the use of Microsoft Access (including
the creation of databases, queries, forms etc.), Excel and Word
·
Excellent organizational skills; attention
to detail and a focus on quality and innovation
·
The ability to prioritize work,
exercise initiative and work with minimal direction
·
The ability to work independently and
collaboratively with colleagues
·
Results oriented with a demonstrated
ability to work effectively as a team member
·
Strong communication skills, both
oral and written, are required
·
Ability to travel to the field
regularly
·
Fluent in both English and Kiswahili
Public Health Evaluation Assistants
LOCATION: Homabay

The PHE Assistant will be supervised
by the PHE Officer. The Incumbent will work closely with the PHE Officer and
the SOAR Kenya team on the PedAC Study (Pediatric Active Case Finding of HIV
through Facility and Community-based Testing Models in Kenya.
He/she collects and processes
research data in support of the PedAC study. He/she arranges and conducts field
interviews as appropriate to the study, and records research data in accordance
with specified protocol and procedures at the study sites.
Duties
·
Travel to field sites and
participants’ homes if needed to collect and record data as appropriate to the
specific objectives of the study.
·
Work closely with health care workers
at the sites and in communities to identify potential study participants,
assess eligibility and recruit them.
·
Describe purpose of the research
study to all participants
·
Conduct informed consent processes
with potential participants according to study procedures and obtain informed
written informed consent from participants.
·
Conduct interviews in accordance with
the protocol, data collection procedures, and documentation standards.
·
As appropriate to the specified
position, code and verify data in accordance with standard operating procedures
(SOPs).
·
Enter study data into the electronic
data capture system
·
Ensure that data collected are
accurate, complete, properly handled and stored in accordance with study SOPs
and confidentiality stipulations.
·
Comply with protocol, ethics and
human subjects regulations and adhere to good research practices.
·
Assists in monitoring study progress
including updating timelines, tracking data quality, and enrolment and
notifying PHE Officer and investigators of progress.
·
Provide timely reports and
communicate regularly with the PHE Officer and investigators as required.
Requirements
·
Diploma in relevant field plus 3 to 5
years of experience conducting health service related research.
·
A basic degree in social science,
public health or other relevant discipline and 1-3 years relevant work
experience.
·
Prior experience in conducting
research (e.g. data collection and recording and conducting interviews).
·
Experience collecting data using
electronic gadgets.
·
Knowledge of and prior training in
protection of human subjects in research and ethics regulations (evidence of
research ethics certificate)
·
Excellent organizational skills and
ability to follow study-specific procedures and guidelines reliably.
·
Excellent interpersonal communication
skills, including ability to adapt to changing situations and group dynamics.
·
Knowledge of MOH facility data
collection registers an added advantage.
·
Ability to understand and apply
specified field research procedures and protocols.
·
Fluent in English, Kiswahili and
Dholuo.
Physical demands:
·
The position can entail long periods
of sitting, standing and/or walking.
·
There will be varied exposure to
environmental elements such as sunshine, rain, cold, winds.
·
Field schedules vary from day to day
and according to the preference of the potential study participants so there
may be need to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
