YieldWise Initiative: The Rockefeller Foundation has a unique opportunity to play a central role in fixing food loss - an eminently fixable problem.
Just as we deployed resources
to increase production when there simply was not enough food to feed humanity,
we now have an opportunity - and an imperative - to ensure that the food that
is grown is consumed.
This is why the Rockefeller
Foundation launched the YieldWise Initiative in January 2016.
The goal of YieldWise Initiative is to halve the amount of good food going into waste in four representative value chains (e.g. mango in Kenya, tomato and cassava in Nigeria, and maize in Tanzania), contributing to improving millions of rural lives.

We recognize that food loss
is a symptom of an inefficient value chain.
Hence to reduce post-harvest
losses, the Rockefeller Foundation is promoting an innovative approach that
connects
(1) aggregated smallholder
farmers with strengthened capacities to
(2) structured markets,
unlocking both access to
(3) loss-reducing
technologies or products and
(4) finance.
With this ambitious approach,
our convening power, and catalytic investment; the Rockefeller Foundation aims
at contributing to systems-change.
To ensure that the YieldWise approach is being properly monitored, evaluated, and that critical lessons inform adjustments to the current model and future waves of work, we have partnered with specialized M&E partners.

leadership on key learning questions.
