As we begin staffing our Africa Regional Office in Nairobi Kenya we are seeking skilled and highly motivated individuals to fill key positions in the areas of Finance, Nutrition, Monitoring and Reporting, Contracting and Procurement, Human Resources and support staff.
We are recruiting for the following position:

2. Overall Purpose / Broad
Function:
To lead the monitoring and
donor reporting function for the Africa region.
3. Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Monitoring for reporting to
donors and for effective project management:
- Lead the
adaptation of existing intervention performance monitoring frameworks for
projects to ensure consistency of indicators (especially for donor
reporting) across all country programs in Africa.
- Provide
briefing, training and technical support as necessary for regional and
country program staff on tools and procedures for donor reporting and on
the associated program monitoring requirements.
- Provide advice
and support to country staff to help them develop simple clear workplans
to meet data collection requirements.
- Provide
guidance and support to program staff in countries on methods for the
collecting of qualitative and quantitative information from external data
sources (such as HMIS, DHS, MICS), for assessing data quality and for
developing plans to improve data quality.
- Work with
program staff to identify where baseline, mid-line and end-line surveys
need to be conducted by MI (or its sub-contractors) and work with MI’s
Regional Adviser for Research and Evaluation to formalize time-bound plans
for the completion of these surveys.
- Monitor
progress against country plans for data collection and reporting through
periodic reviews of data collected by each Country Office to ensure the
accuracy and integrity of information gathered and take corrective action
and/or raise any serious problems encountered with the Regional Director,
D/Regional Director and Director Program Services.
Development / improvement of
monitoring and reporting system:
- Consult with
global, regional and country staff and provide input on behalf of MI
Africa to the development and/or improvement of guidelines, standards,
tools and procedures for project monitoring and reporting across MI’s
projects ensuring that indicators are appropriate and measurable in the MI
Africa programming context.
- Ensure that
local monitoring systems in MI Africa are well-integrated with MI’s global
systems and adheres to donor and global requirements.
- Lead the
development of performance measurement frameworks for new projects and
programs.
- Work with
global team to develop and maintain a practical system for storing and
analyzing program information.
Analysis:
- As requested,
compile data across all projects and provide analysis to the Regional
Director, D/Regional Director (and Director Program Services as relevant)
for course correction and program improvement.
Donor reporting:
- Lead the timely
and accurate compilation of results reporting from all Country Offices and
work with relevant program staff to revise as necessary to meet donor
reporting requirements and liaise with Program Officer Knowledge
Management as needed.
Member of Africa Management
Committee:
- Contribute as a
member of the Regional Management Committee quarterly regional review of
program progress and budget management.
Other duties and
responsibilities may be required.
4. Supervisory
Responsibilities:
- 50% direct
supervision of PO4 Regional Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.
- Indirect
supervision of program staff and input to performance appraisal reviews.
5. Education/Professional
Designations/Experience:
- At least 10
years of experience in monitoring similar programs in developing
countries.
- Master’s degree
in monitoring and evaluation or related discipline is desirable.
- At least five
years working in Africa preferred.
- Specific
experience with monitoring of nutrition and health programs is preferred.
Familiarity with HMIS, DHS, MICS also preferred.
- Ability to
write clearly and concisely with previous donor reporting experience
preferred.
6. Language Skills:
- Fluency in
English.
- Knowledge of
other languages (especially French) would be an asset.
7. Travel Requirements:
- Based in
Nairobi, Kenya.
- The position
requires travel within Africa. Trips are usually expected to be short term

8. Other Specific Skill
Requirements:
- Skilled user of
Microsoft Office products (especially Excel).
